Mike Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I recently reviewed this kit here and was full of praise for it even before I'd started gluing it together. Now I've built, painted and weathered it, I can confirm that it is an excellent kit, taking less than an hour to construct, and a loooong time to paint and weather. I could have spent more time painting on the tiny little "=" markings that adorn virtually every panel, but I decided that it might make it look too busy in this scale, so called a halt to proceedings before I went blind, insane or some combination of the two! Here she is - her full name YT-1300 Corellian Engineering Corporation Transport "Millenium Falcon". Han Solo and Chewbacca's ride from the best 3 Star Wars films (IMHO) Build thread is here if you're interested What a great kit! 26
Smiffy Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 You know, already owning 2 Mpc Falcons, 1 Finemolds 72nd Falcon, a Revell Mini Falcon and the one that comes in the MPC Rebel Base kit, I wasn't originally planning to get one of these, but... What a (great) piece of junk!. Cracking job on this one, Mike. 1
Madmonk Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Absolutely brilliant Mike, she looks fantastic. Took the plunge this afternoon and ordered on myself, thought I'd try that before I tackle the big one in the loft! Well done again
AnonymousER99 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Very nice Mike! I think you captured the look of the original quite well. Oh, don't forget that Lando Calrissian also owned it and even borrowed it while Han was a popsicle.
daz greenwood Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Lando had it first, before Han won it from him in a Gambling game!
Smiffy Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Lando had it first, before Han won it from him in a Gambling game! I heard, he lost it to him "Fair and square".
Screech Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Very nice Mike!I think you captured the look of the original quite well. Oh, don't forget that Lando Calrissian also owned it and even borrowed it while Han was a popsicle. At least when Han flew it he didn't break things off like the Radar Dish, and he flew it through a asteroid field!! Nice job on it Mike!! Cheers
Andy Mullen Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Cracking build Mike I now feel the need to dig out my DVDs and chill out with a drink and popcorn
TonyT Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 (edited) Could do with something beside it to give a sense of it's size, got an old MPC one coming, how does it compare to that in scale??? Edited May 26, 2010 by TonyT
bexwh773 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Lando had it first, before Han won it from him in a Gambling game! Sabaac is the name of the game Young Daz and dont forget you have a YT1300 in ya stash I heard, he lost it to him "Fair and square". Han + Lando + Sabaac = "Fair and square"........ I dont think so (well not in Lando's book anyways LoL) Boss, Smiffy has already pinched the best line, so no point in repeating it (Smiffy ya a git ) However, it may well be your first Sci Fi build in 30 years, but its superb. I dont wish to sound rude, but you may not build many models Mike, but by god the ones you do, well, I can only dream of building Thanks for sharing Boss, and I look forwards to seeing this in the plastic one day Bexy
daz greenwood Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Thanx Bexy! The name of the game came to me earlier, but couldn't be asked to edit my post! And my YT1300 won't be anywhere near as good as Mike's
Pilgrim_UK Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Mike you made it look very easy in the build and a cracking looking Falcon.
Mike Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 Thanks again guys Could do with something beside it to give a sense of it's size, got an old MPC one coming, how does it compare to that in scale??? 8" long, 6" wide. My MPC kit is long gone (may still be in my parents's loft somewhere), so I can't remember how big it was Daz... This is not the Falcon you're looking for - I'll take it off your hands
daz greenwood Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I am gonna build my Falcon Mike, it just won't be as good as yours is all!
bexwh773 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Thanks again guys Youre welcome Boss Daz... This is not the Falcon you're looking for - I'll take it off your hands It was the cut away version Boss, I know coz he got it off me for building my Dads Warrior & Saladin last year Bexy
daz greenwood Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 (edited) It was the cut away version Boss, I know coz he got it off me for building my Dads Warrior & Saladin last year Bexy Yup, and I is building it! Maybe not tomorrow, but soon Edited May 26, 2010 by daz greenwood
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Lovely Job Mike! May the Force be with you
Obi-Jiff Kenobi Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts." Well Mike, your rendition looks like very much, and it has it where it counts. Lovely finish, very realistic - which is saying something for a model of a model... Obi-Jiff
gunpowder17 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 (edited) I do consider myself a bit of an expert on this ship. Having built about 3 1/72 ones and repainting a few studio scale ones i know what im looking at. Mike , you nailed it! The colour and the weathering is spot on. You bugger , i want one now! By the way , my tag line at the bottom sums up the Falcon perfectly! Edited May 27, 2010 by gunpowder17
The Sheene Machine Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 (edited) I don't pretend to be an expert on the Falcon, but your build looks spot on to me. It has the right feel. Excellent painting and weathering job...and if I didn't know it was the 144th kit, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was the 72nd, which demonstrates the quality of this smaller version. It looks like it has 900 parts! Superb job Mike. I've loved following the biuld up too. Very informative. Edited May 27, 2010 by The Sheene Machine

By the way , my tag line at the bottom sums up the Falcon perfectly! Cheers fella - it's not 100% accurate, as I just didn't have the patience to put every streak where it should be, but I did my best to get the "feel" right, and confirmation from somsone that's built THAT many is always good What is "studio scale", and just how expensive are they? Enquiring minds need to know... I'm really kicking myself for missing out on the 1:72 scale one now too
gunpowder17 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Studio scale would be what they used for filming. The X-wings Y-wings and Ties for instance were 1/24 . The Empire strikes back studio model was 32 inches long. Master Rplicas made a solid resin and Alluminium Falcon. The first one i bought was a signature edition one that was signed by Harrison Ford. They were , what for it , ...........£2000 ish!! Yes i bought one , repainted it and sold it on. The secon d one was the one in the link below. Only £600 this time but again totally repainted and sold on. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5864
