At long last I've finally got my act together .....

Given up trying to be clever, it was never going to work was it :banghead:

I've tried various ways of posting pics including postimage.org which seemed to display pics as and when it fancied.

I've now settled on Flickr and we seem to be getting along. I will in the next few days continue to change over.

Enough waffle I've been playing :hypnotised:

As stated in the beginning this is all about a concept and part of that was how I wanted to display the Vessel.

Starting with a box

Then a bit of plastic / stone work

The stones 2 x 3mm were scribed and given numerous washes, spot colours etc

Lock taking shape

Multiple colours later, more needed....

P1080331 (Copy)

Lock gates added

P1080342 (Copy)

Boat with bits propped on

P1080343 (Copy)

P1080344 (Copy)

P1080345 (Copy)

You cant see on these pics but the boat is not sitting on the bottom and is screwed to the lock wall

Frame tacked together to give what I believe is called a box frame

P1080348 (Copy)

Works for me.

There will be a clear acrylic face, so I have a boxed diorama of a Clyde Puffer leaving a lock with overall dimensions of 185 x 160 x 45mm.

This could be hung on a wall or stood on a shelf :penguin:

If there is any probs. with viewing pics please let me know

The photos look great from here in sunny Tenerife

Think this will make a great centre piece on any display cabinet.

This is a great idea Kev. If I can make one small suggestion, assuming this is meant to be somewhere on the Crinan Canal, the water should be very dark to the point of being almost back.

I think someone/something is trying to tell me something...........

Time to stop posting

First the debacle of Photobucket

Now postimage.org does not want to play

all rather pointless without pictures

I'm off to try on a pair of knitting needles

Kev

Nice to see you persisting, I was going to suggest Flickr as I haven't had any problems with them.  The little puffer looks great! Don't think you will ever knit one of those!

Thanks Keith. What part of Tenerife are you in, we have relatives in Los Gigantes/Puerto Santiago

NO :bangin:

Only kidding, that goes along with my thoughts I was thinking New Forest peat streams....

Never having been to Scotland what colour would the surface be?

I am colour blind but peat generally gives a brown colour to water. The water in the Crinan Canal is almost black in virtually all light conditions so I would be going for a brown colour bordering on black. Hang on, try this:

010.jpg

This is about the lightest I have ever seen the water in the canal, though the picture was taken during an uncommonly dry spell for that part of Scotland. I think the reason that it is usually so dark is that, road and tow path aside, the is very little distance between the canal and a steep range of hills on one side of the canal, resulting in nearly all the run off from the hills going directly into the canal, resulting in a much greater concentration of particles in a very limited amount of water than might be the case in other locations. I stand to be corrected on this point but it is the best explanation I can think of. Go for a few shades darker than the picture and you won't go far wrong.

Hope that helps

Seeing your diorama and Martians picture of VIC 32 on the Crinan Canal took me back to a happy family holiday many, many years ago. I love it!

She's on the bottom - how are you going to do the water level?

Not actually sitting on the bottom as will be revealed.......

I've used clear acrylic to form supporting sides

P1080351

Note sides given an Olive Drab wash to hopefully cast a colour on the undersea portion. Holes are for screwing into side of hull

Acrylic top cut to suit hull

P1080352

Thought you might be interested in how I cut the sheet

P1080349

Bow floating..

P1080354

All lashed together with frame to give effect

P1080357

P1080358

Front panel to be left clear. Top to be covered with clear artists acrylic to texture the surface. The top or underside to be given wash to give colour cast, the aim being to finish up with peat coloured water. This will only be done when the hull is ready to be bonded in.

Cunning plan seems to be working....

Steady, we all know what happens to "cunning plans". I remember a while back I was in fulsome praise of @EXFAAWAFU and his Ark Royal build. The next thing I knew he had had a disaster with it and I was duly accursed as a Jonah for quite some time thereafter.
