Geoff_B Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 (edited) Latest build completed based on the Airfix kit with the Cammet AEW conversion. Decals - Roundels from Model Alliance, Serials from Xrtradecal set (which has 3 AEW serials from when they were used as MR versions). Good build, pretty straight forward, although the new nose gear bay and metal U/C from Heritage might be rather handy given the weight of the resin and ballast. Just one note, the Cammett instructions could have done with additional info and notes on the Aerial fits as constant checking of photos was nesessary. Hope you like it :- Geoff Edited June 29, 2008 by Geoff_B 15
Skii Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Yikes thats a corker !! Great job Geoff, flawless looking. Beautiful in a sort of hideous way! 1
Seamus Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 First AEW.3 I've seen built up and it looks a peach! Quality build Geoff
DamienB Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 That does look good... ahh... tempting, tempting...
bexwh773 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Very nice Geoff, thanks for sharing a stunner, and for those that would be buried alive if caught with one of those ATB Bex
AnonymousER99 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Splendid work Geoff.....makes me think about starting my Cammet conversion!! Boy its ugly and hideous all at the same time!!
Pete100 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I agree with all the other statements here Geoff and have to agree that you have indeed made a silk purse out of a sow's ear - Well done Pete.
Jennings Heilig Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 First AEW.3 I've seen built up and it looks a peach! I was thinking more like a big vibrator, but yes, it's a super looking model! Wow! J 1
Richard M Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Fantastic job, the cut and shut on the nose and tail is flawless! Best Rich
Geoff_B Posted June 30, 2008 Author Posted June 30, 2008 The credit goes to Cammett for the quality of the conversion as its pretty fool proof getting the cuts done. The Nose join is actually the hardest as the new nose fits around the cockpit floor the Fwd undercarriage bay, whilst the tabs go on the inside of the fwd fuselage - gets a tad ticky at that point especailly as the nose iarea is rammed with 80g of weight !!!. I must admit the photos flatter the build quality to some extent but glad the gang like it as the AEW does have some attraction to it, cant think what, but its sort of grows on you after a while. G
thx6667 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 That's great work Geoff, must be a hernia inducing model to lift, mind! Tearing up some old carpet the other day and some of the underlay was a copy of the Daily Express from 1986, with an article on the Nimblob AEW!

NONSENSE! Geoff, with all due respect, having been privileged enough to see this in it's "just finished" state this weekend I think you do yourself an injustice. It's a cracking build, and the photo's do not flatter the build, they are a fair reflection of a top quality job! Now then, now this beastie is out the way full speed ahead with your xxxxxx scratchbuild Duncan Edited June 30, 2008 by Overkiller
F-32 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 She's a big beastie, ugly and beautiful all at the same time - great build
Nev Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Geoff that looks fantastic. Cracking model of a cracking subject In-service bird with grey paint and squadron markings next?
Craig S Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 That balanced somewhere between hideously ugly yet somehow quite cool, but the build quality is unquestionable, that looks excellent!
Alan P Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Very nice model geoff, but only a mother could love those looks :
