Shagohod
Hi! While on my way back home from work I visited my local hobby shop and got this kit. I have a few days off this week and thought it was a good idea to add another model to my bench (still working on a BMP-1 and a diorama :D) Boxart: Lots of sprue: Some PE as well: Camo schemes: Decals and some additions you can buy: No building today, since I am exhausted. But see you soon! Daniel Edited April 29 by Shagohod

Pete in Lincs
For details of the real thing, have a look on you tube at mr hewes They have quite a few episodes on there and it's still in work.
Shagohod
@Pete in Lincs Thanks a lot. This will be useful. Some minor progress from today. Started to assemble the hull: The metal spring is a nice detail, even though you won't see much of it in the end. All assembled! This is how it will look in the end: Thanks for taking a look! Time to get some straws. 😀 Some minor progress from today: I haven't had much time for modelling today, as tomorrow my new workbench will arrive. That table is already gone and I put all my modelling supplies into boxes. Daniel Edited May 3 by Shagohod
ivan-o
👍no problem Daniel, 6 mm diameter and cut to 13 cm long and 75 in the bundle your good to go😀 I’ve looked at doing one of these so I’ll look on with interest! Ivan
heloman1
Looking good. Re the suspension springs, I can imagine, the tool designer and toolmaker breathed a sigh of refief at not having the tool in that detail. Looks great. I'm interested in your build, so pulling up a seat. Colin
Shagohod
Some progress from today: The front armor plate has a different texture than the rest of the hull. Do you guys know if they did that on purpose? I did some research, but in most photos that plate is hidden either by reactive armour or the bulldozer blade. Daniel

Ivan You may need to paint them before the rivet counters see them and start suggesting which shade of black... 2
Shagohod
I made some progress yesterday: My plan is to start painting it this weekend. Let's see if I manage to finish the building stage tomorrow. 😀

ivan-o
Looking very good👍 don’t be tempted by that commanders seat way up in the air never ever saw it used.
Shagohod
Thank you guys! But still no painting yet. 😋 At least I'm almost done building it. I only have to add a few details and clean some parts up. The almost finished turret. Only the commander's seat mentioned by Ivan is still missing: Looking huge The skirts will be painted separately. Gives me more weathering options: I think I will do this camo. I suppose it was used during Operation Desert Storm - but weren't the Avre tanks more armored? I did some research and all tanks had some additional armor plates added to skirts and turret.
ivan-o
Coming along well now, they were certainly a beast😀 they were uparmoured in time but that is how they were at the start👍 It looks a very good kit,the issue I have is the type of tracks, they really should be steelys! not hush puppies they arrived late in in the cents service and first appeared when we got 105 gun tanks from the RA. The tech QM promptly bust a blood vessel and demanded ‘proper’ tracks be sent😀
Peter2
This Centurion MK 5 AVRE is turning out well. About the drinking straws: as well the (eco-friendly) paper ones mentioned above, you can get cheap packs of plastic (boo!) straws which have a perfectly smooth surface - just mentioning, as I got a pack from a discount shop because I imagined they looked like scaled-down metal pipes for dioramas. (Admittedly their "walls" may be a bit thin for some uses.)
