Phantom F4-J VF-84 1/48th scale

Recommended Posts

Academy's 1/48th F4-J is an interesting kit, loaded with detail.

This boxing of the model allows you to build one of two schemes, both from VF-84 "Jolly Rogers" from 1972.

The kit includes a very nicely appointed cockpit, some impressive surface detail, and a nice choice of weaponry.

I'm not too sure about the multicoloured parts, white, black & grey sprues, very "Matchbox".

The upper fuselage is produced in one piece, so no seam along the spine to deal with :)

The intake trunking is reasonable for the kit.

I added a set of resin ejector seats left over from another project, but everything else is out of the box.

Painted with Tamiya acrylics & lacquers ( metallic colours).

Who’s ejection seats did you use?

Thanks for your comments, it is a very nice kit with hardly any issues. The seats were from Aires,

Superb.  I have the Academy F-4C on the go right now, they are great kits.  The Eduard re-box with all the additional goodies are really top notch!

Always nice to see an aircraft crewed up

Yes! Most definitely. The figures were too nice to have not put them in the cockpits.

The weathering looks spot on for a well used Phantom. Not overdone and ready for the scrap heap.

Thank you.

Navy Phantoms did suffer from the elements a bit more than the land based ones, and I do like to give my models a "worn" appearance.

Thank you all very much for all your comments & compliments :)
