Cromm Cruac Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Inspired by Sabaton song I've started this diorama some time ago. Just realised that it was actually over 4 years, so long time overdue. Finally had some time to finish it so here it is. Diorama consists Half-track (from Dragon), Il-2 & Panther Ausf. D (from Academy 2 piece set) + some figures from various sets. Trees are made of Miliput, wire & turfs. And some un-photoshopped ones As always, thanks for viewing. Comments welcome 37 2
moondrome Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Good job! Lot of details. I particularly like the crashed airplane 1
spruecutter96 Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 Hello. This is an amazing diorama, but I have one very small observation to make. How did the Il-2 get there? If it's stopped, then logically there would be some damage to the ground behind it. OK, you could argue that it might have "hopped" before coming to a rest and the ground-damage is outside the perimeter of the scene. - but that seems less likely, to be honest. For the airframe to actually stop, it has to have lost the great majority of its momentum, so one final hop doesn't seem that likely. Not really a criticism, just a friendly observation. I wish I could produce dioramas even half as good as this. Thanks for sharing with us. Chris. 1
Cromm Cruac Posted April 7, 2022 Author Posted April 7, 2022 (edited) @spruecutter96, yeah, I kinda thought about it and even made a dent but miscalculated and it was in a wrong place. The scenario was that the plane rolled almost to a stop and the damaged wing and undercarriage gave up then it fell into the ravine. Does it sound believable? Edited April 7, 2022 by Cromm Cruac
spruecutter96 Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 Hello. Yep, that does sound pretty plausible. Thing is, I really don't like being an armchair critic. You had the motivation to actually make your diorama.... I spend WAY too much time daydreaming about the stuff I would like to build and not actually building a damn thing (usually). Once again, thanks for sharing with us. Chris. 1 1
Toryu Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 Wow - that's fantastic! What an artwork! You're a modeller of all trades - aircraft, tanks, figures, diorama, everything looks incredibly real. 1
nimrod484 Posted April 8, 2022 Posted April 8, 2022 This is really great, particularly given it is 1/72 which can be difficult to paint and work with figures. Love the photo shop. Not sure about the figure being on the bonnet of the 251 or the ones on the sat on the tank’s left side and walking one not interacting with the crash scene events. Very minor quibbles.
zigster Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Very nice dio and photos! Those "shopped" pix are sweet! I do agree with spruecutter96, that your Shturmovik just dropped from the sky. With that much of (very nice!!!) grass and flowers, there would be a trail. Re: nimrod's comment - one can see, that most of those soldiers are fresh on eastern front, they all pointing their guns on those 2 unfortunate lotchiki. Old hands don't even bother to look. You've seen one captured Russian soldat, you've seen 'em all. 😀 Does that sounds plausible? zig 1
Muchmirth Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Like, like, like!!! Fantastic work. Really love the flowers you put in the grass, did you make these or buy them premade? The panther is really well painted. The il-2 damage looks great. Cool story line too. Brilliant work for such a challenging and difficult scale. The photo shop pics really look authentically aged and give it a wonderful setting. 1
Cromm Cruac Posted April 15, 2022 Author Posted April 15, 2022 (edited) @Muchmirth, I've tried to make flowers myself from coloured shredded paper or woodchips but I wasn't satisfied. Eventually I've bought the mini flock flower set from WWScenics and sprinkled them over multilayered static grass. Edited April 15, 2022 by Cromm Cruac 1
Bertie McBoatface Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Wow! That's very dramatic. The detailed work is amazing. Brilliantly done. 1
Fred piket Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Wow, This is a diorama made to the highest level.. I can only dream of this kind of diorama. I like the "postcard" pictures! 1
Rob 1 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 I like this, not just a very good diorama in this scale, but the diorama scenery has a great feel about it, gives a taste of what it would be like to be there. 1
Model Mate Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Brilliant work, particularly in such a small scale. Top photoshop work too! 1
Zoran Srb Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 I must agree with others. Excellent job on both diorama, and photography. Well done Sir! 1
