MrBigBlock
Hi, I usually work on US muscle cars but my motivation decreased a few weeks ago. So I decided to try something new and I stated this diorama inspired by SW7 when BB-8 discovers R2-D2 hidden under his cover ! My dio is just inspired by the film... I first bought this box from bandai, a very nice 1/12 kit. And here's the scene from SW7 that I wanted to figure
MrBigBlock
A friend of mine gave me some photo-etched parts he made. Nice ! And I started to build this dio out of Depron foam Edited April 11, 2016 by MrBigBlock
Foghorn Leghorn
Hmmm... Interesting to see how you get on with the foam
MrBigBlock
Then I started to think about giving life to this dio and tested some LEDs and optical fiber for BB-8 and some machines behind R2
MrBigBlock
And here's the result with fibers Inside BB-8. This is just a test but it looks nice !
MrBigBlock
This is the socket I'll use to hide the cables, LEDs and fibers. It'll be painted black with a clearcoat. And in this box, you can see all the R2-D2 parts ready for painting !
MrBigBlock
Then I started the paint on the dio ! First, white stucco (we call it Gesso in France, I don't know its name in the rest of the world ) mixed with real fine sand to add texture !
MrBigBlock
It was R2D2's turn to be painted. I used ZP paints, Mica Blue and Mica Silver ! I painted it before assembly...
MrBigBlock
More paint on the dio, medium gray and buff Tamiya acrylic paint applied with a brush. Then Brown and dark grey washes, buff, flat white drybrushes for the walls, and the same technique with different colors for the floor and concrete. Then I used mig and Vallejo pigments to add texture and for the global weathering !
MrBigBlock
Now BB-8 was prepared for painting ... painted and assembled with the lights system Inside ! I added some accessories on the dio, electric wires, A kind of gutter ?. The green wash is more discreet on the dio than on these photos.
