ejboyd5 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 After my decidedly non-British Yak-38 posting of last week, I thought it best to return closer to theme: Kit is the old standard Airfix Gloster Javelin F.A.W. 9.9R; Construction was basically OOB, with some antenna additions and minor surgery to show the characteristic "set" of the Javelin tailplane at rest; Paint was the standard Javelin livery enhanced with the old Model Decal No.30 sheet; Airframe represented was on strenth during 1962/63 with 85 Squadron at West Raynham; There may be some subtle dimensional disagreements that make this a less than perfect F.A.W. 8, but it looks like a Javelin to my Yank eyes. 2
XL929 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Very nice, good work! Thanks very much for sharing.
derek burton Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Brill, gotta love the Javelin, what a monster. Dek.
Work In Progress Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Gorgeous models, and lovely photography too. A model that shows how good fine raised detailing can look, as with a lot of the Monogram kits.
Alex Gordon Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 (edited) I wish mine looked as good as that. Come on then smartarse, how did you get the upper wing roundels to conform so well to the vortex generators? A spot on job executed splendidly.Well done sir. Edited August 13, 2010 by Alex Gordon
FalkeEins Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 my guess is they were cut off and then added afterwards - lovely looking model !
Duncan B Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Very nice indeed. Strangely enough I was sitting with the old Novo "Dragmaster" box open in front of me when I found this post, maybe it won't get put back in the stash afterall.
sinnerboy Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 luvly...what a beaut! .....come on airfix lets have one in 1/48 ( or Mr Song, if your listening 1/32....ooo would'nt that be good?)
Deon Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Lovely sharp finish, glad I kept the old FAW9 , one day....one day
Duncan B Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Argh, I've just looked more closely at the Novo Javelin and the canopy looks like it's 3mm thick with deep scratches on the inside. Does anybody know of a vacform replacement or where I could get one for the Javelin?

Matt Roberts Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 A question, when was the Airfix one last released? Just curious as the only one I thought that had been done was the Frog release (Novo...) back when I was building anything I could find in 72nd! And I don't recall ever seeing an Airfix one
Duncan B Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Aeroclub do a vacform Javelin canopy.David cheers David, I'll see if I can get one then I'll make a start to the Novo boxing, I'm going to build it as the Silver A/C from the OCU when it was based at Leuchars.

Just curious as the only one I thought that had been done was the Frog release (Novo...) back when I was building anything I could find in 72nd! And I don't recall ever seeing an Airfix one The Airfix kit was first released long, long ago by Heller, although I think Airfix may have changed the version somehow - as I recall (dimly!), the Heller was a trainer. I have the old Heller kit buried somewhere, but I've never had the Airfix release to compare it with. John
Matt Roberts Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 John , Thanks, somehow a Heller T-3 sounds familiar, just not an Airfix boxing. The one I built probably had a 1970's box date as by the early 80's Heller and Airfix were both hard to find Stateside

Then Airfix released the Heller T3 in Airfix boxing. Then Airfix altered the mould to the FAW9R and released that. David
