Hello everyone,

Thanks for letting me join the forum.

I recently came back to the hobby after a long 20+ years break. My story is probably very similar to most on this forum. Started building models as a 6, 7 year old kid and first it was mainly airplanes in 1:72 scale as these were the most popular and easy to find.

In my teens got introduced to Humbrol and Tamiya paints and although I loved the hobby chasing girls become a priority :)

To cut the story short, I've moved to UK, got a some sort of career, started a family and after years of fafing about last year I have decided to get back to scale modelling.

I've built a nice stash, all WW2 in 1:35 scale and started to go through them one by one. I consider myself a total newbie, so I hope that this forum will help me learn new things and improve my very limited skills.

Best,

Dan

Welcome Dan :)

There are plenty of people here who will always help and give advice when needed, we're a friendly bunch :)

1/35 WW2 stuff isn't my area, but it's a very popular subject on here, enjoy your builds and show us some pictures when you start progressing through your stash

:welcome: aboard Dan.  We like to think we're all as individual as snowflakes, but most of us modellers seem to fit a pattern, and keep coming back to the hobby :)

Thanks guys. I've read through FAQ's and have my Flickr account sorted, so now it's the time to put my money where my mouth is, no excuses. 😅

Hello Dan … :post1:  from somewhere across the pond from you in Chicago USA. Personally I’m mostly a military aircraft builder, though will take on the odd piece of armor or the occasional ship now. I’ve been building since 1979 and nothing really makes me want to stop. I’ve slowed down in the last couple of years from health issues but thats about it.

Hello Dan, welcome from a cold north east of Scotland. I am also restarting following a hiatus, I build 1/72nd military aircraft from my old squadron, 3(F) Sqn RAF, cover 1912 to the present day.

Hi Dan, welcome to the forum from a fellow East Mid-lander.

Your story is very familiar, I came back to the hobby proper in lockdown.

You've certainly come to the right place for inspiration and support. 👍

Hi Dan also east mids, Leicestershire/Northamptonshire border. Village I’m next to has a great memorial to some of your country men who were killed in a wellington on returning from a mission. I hope to build a 48th tribute to them.
The general public seem to forget the contribution that Poland made to fighting the Nazi’s. Be it armoured, parachute or even Polish squadrons of the RAF. This is why lots of towns etc have ex polish servicemen clubs.
There is lots to celebrate in your country’s service.

Welcome back to the hobby. 👍

Thanks Veg,

I've been to a couple memorial sites, but they were in the different part of the country. I would like to know more about that one near you, so then when it gets warmer I can do a nice bike ride there.

When I decided to pick up modelling again I was looking for a theme, so my plan is to build some of the tanks used by Polish 1st Armoured Division. I already have Sherman Firefly and a couple of Cromwells in my stash, but there will be a few more to come.

Looking forward to seeing your Wellington build, so please let me know when you will be on that project.

Best,

Dan

Welcome to the forum Dan, you will find it a very helpful and friendly place to be.

I am about 15 minutes away from you, just the other side of Twycross from the Ashby direction and I drive past Ashby on every journey to and from work in Derby. There is a very strong connection to Poland in the area as a lot of Polish pilots were based at Bramcote just outside Nuneaton and were also trained at the many airfields nearby.
