USAF Heavies at RAF Mildenhall, 22.10.23

After watching KC10 84-0191 go over my house into MLD on Sunday, i made a run over to get a couple pics. Glad i did as we then had 4 KC-135 arrivals and the delayed C-5 just before the sun disappeared!!

Nice images Jon in lovely Autumnal light. I too am very depressed by the AMC directive to remove serials and sqn markings from the heavy fleets

That’s a fantastic set of photos and in lovely light too. Especially envious of the C-5 as I haven’t clapped eyes on one in about 30 years!

 

The most worrying thing about the markless USAF heavies is that I fear that their NATO allies will eventually follow suit. It’s already tough times for military aircraft enthusiasts/photographers without this development.

the removal of "visible" registartions is certainly causing a bit of unrest! 

I can understand the need for security but I really don't see how that makes any real difference!!!

I like the composition of the first photo withe the C-5 in the dip in the tree top line. 
 

I suppose in times of heightened tensions the decision to remove the more visible identifiers might make sense but from a modelling perspective it is a shame. On the other hand it makes the decal hunt easier

The C-5M is from the Air Force Reserve unit at Joint Base Kelly here in San Antonio, Texas.

Lovely set of shots in some great light. As others have remarked the KC-10 looks ready for retirement (or a repaint).
