Bullbasket
On a slightly different tac, before I go to sleep at night, I usually sit up in bed and either read a book, or do a crossword. One clue had me stumped for a few seconds, currency of Spain, six letters. 'ang on! There are only four letters in euro. Then the peso dropped. The dinosaurs who had compiled this crossword were still living in the 20th century. Peseta!! John. 1

JohnT
Was talking to a mate about old Hammer vampire films and he reminded me of a photo of Christopher Lee about to bite his fake teeth into a young maidens bosom. I had totally forgotten about that. I said to him “Fangs for the mammary, mate.””

Bullbasket
Last night on Pointless. One of the questions was who was the Lieutenant Colonel who was defeated at the battle of the Little Big Horn. Answer; General Custer. Really? Did he get promoted just as he was killed? 2

Bertie McBoatface
These poor contestants will forever regret that moment of panic during their broadcast. I have hundreds of “I wish I’d said…” moments that still niggle me, years later, but my audience was never more than a few dozen people - not millions!

Actually, General Custer was a Lieutenant Colonel at the time. The explanation is that his Civil War rank of Major General was not substantive - i.e. it was a wartime rank and in peacetime he reverted to his substantive rank of Lieut Col. However, as a courtesy, he was referred to and addressed as "General". 2
