On a slightly different tac, before I go to sleep at night, I usually sit up in bed and either read a book, or do a crossword. One clue had me stumped for a few seconds, currency of Spain, six letters. 'ang on! There are only four letters in euro. Then the peso dropped. The dinosaurs who had compiled this crossword were still living in the 20th century. Peseta!!

Was talking to a mate about old Hammer vampire films and he reminded me of a photo of Christopher Lee about to bite his fake teeth into a young maidens bosom.
I had totally forgotten about that. I said to him “Fangs for the mammary, mate.””

A couple more contestants, vying for the title, Numbnut of the Year on an episode of Tipping Point.

Question. On the Penny Black stamp, which monarch's head was featured.

Answer. The Queen's.

Yes, but which one?

The second!!

Same episode, different contestant.

What day of the week is the French word mardi?

Answer. March!

The look on Ben Shepherds's face said it all.

Last night on Pointless. One of the questions was who was the Lieutenant Colonel who was defeated at the battle of the Little Big Horn.

Answer; General Custer. Really? Did he get promoted just as he was killed?

Actually, General Custer was a Lieutenant Colonel at the time. The explanation is that his Civil War rank of Major General was not substantive - i.e. it was a wartime rank and in peacetime he reverted to his substantive rank of Lieut Col. However, as a courtesy, he was referred to and addressed as "General".

Ah, that explains it. Thanks for the explanation Kevin. It's a pity that they didn't explain that on the program last night.
