RIAT '23 Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (final update 24/07)

Recommended Posts

I spent a very enjoyable day at RAF Fairford today. It was quite blustery with occasional showers, but busy from 0900 when the first Buff landed.

Here is my (incomplete) record of the day, in chronological order. I hope you enjoy them!

Love the two Tornados turning to land and the RAF Hawk.  Oh to see an ME262 flying in the flesh.  Thank you for posting Leigh- will enjoy the show vicariously through your photos.

Thanks very much, Colin. Yesterday was busy with arriving aircraft. Today is a mix of practice/validation displays and arrivals. Rest assured, I will post more....🤭

Great photos. Watched a couple of videos on you tube earlier. Some interesting items. I'm going Saturday but it looks like I and the wife will have to wrap up for winter!

Thanks Paul. I have really enjoyed the last 2 days, but the forecast for tomorrow is really not looking promising. 🙄 I hope that you and your wife still enjoy the day.

I recall a few years ago it rained so much that it got called off and tickets were refunded.  Hoping its not the case this time. I had gone to Duxford which was held on the same weekend.

Yes, I can't remember the year, but it was because the off-site car parks were water-logged. I think the weather over the show weekend was actually reasonable!🙄 Fingers are firmly crossed for tomorrow and the weekend....

Another busy day at RAF Fairford with a  mix of arriving aircraft and validation displays. The weather was changeable again, with a couple of light showers.

I really hope that the forecast for Friday and Saturday is wrong!

Thanks Gazza. IMO, it is shaping up to be once of the best RIATs for quite a while - weather permitting!🤞

I hope you enjoy the day.

Also, what is the SAAB aircraft and what has it got bolted to the fuselage?

It's a GlobalEye.  Not the latest Bond movie, but the Erieye AEW radar attached to a Bombardier Global 6000 business jet.  And it seems to need a lot of filler round some of the wing-to-fuselage joints, doesn't it?

Thanks for clearing that up, pigsty! I would have needed to do some research!

I have just finished editing some shots from today's very soggy show. At one point, I thought that all displays would be cancelled, but with great credit to all involved, we were treated to some very rare and some more familiar displays. I will post some shots tomorrow.
