Avro Manchester Bomber Instrument Panel 1:1

Recommended Posts

Good evening BM's

Today I've attached all the ident plates I made last week. I use paper clips which make ideal small rivets. These are like split pins in the sense that they have 2 legs which I open on the back of the panel which holds the plates in place. easy fitting:

The panel needs mounting to the board which I will start tomorrow by printing spaces containing screws which I will be able the screw the panel onto with the original panel screw holes. You'll see what I mean.

Enjoy

This just blows me away... It's like thirty five kits in one all made from thin air and ideas. I don't know if you're an engineer, an artist, a computer wizard or a magician, a combination of them all most likely. A master scale modeller for sure.

Could I commission you to make another Spitfire panel for me?

Evening BM's

The spacers/attachment points to the backboard. As I mentioned above its simply a spacer which I inserted 2 nuts (as part of the print process), one side for the panel screws and the other for the backboard. Like so:

These also give the gap behind the panel for all the instrument attachment bolts etc:

It gives it that nice distance off the board:

Good Evening BMs

The mounting and the board displays have been the interest of this weekend. First off I designed the AVRO logo which would sit inside the box to show which company the Manchester came from (that's AVRO for those that don't know). Again all done in fusion:

Then to the printer:

Then clean up and final paint:

It actually looks really good!

Now onto the mounting along with painting of the back board. The first thing was to drill out the holes for the spacer pegs which will attach the panel and the board together, I printed off quite a few:

Simply push the screw from underneath:

Then screw on the spacer:

Then repeat:

I leave these spacers in place for the painting:

Then screw the panel on top of the spacers:

Thanks for the support guys

Enjoy

Good Evening BMs

To the completion of the build!

The final touches being the fitment of the Blind Flying Panel to the backing plate (3 bolts hold it in place to the back plate):

It was next the turn of the AVRO logo and the data/info plates:

Data plates:

It is a big panel and so far the largest project I've taken on:

d.jpg

The box was made from pine and glazed last week by a local carpenter and picture framer. Here the panel is test fitted into the box. Some slight adjustments and a bit more paint before its complete (inner side panels need painting white):

The side walls are now painted white and screwed in place. I fitted a French Cleat to the back for easy fitment to the wall:

And finally, a test fit to its display wall in the heritage centre, ready for unveiling in the near future.

Sorry about the glare but its the best I could do at the time.

Hope you've enjoyed this build. Ill post more pics on the "Ready For Inspection" page.

Catch you on the next build - probably a Mosquito!!!???

Respect, fellow modellers!
