Hurricane MK 1. Under new builder, so to say.

Recommended Posts

OK folks, first of all I am sorry for my absence from this forum for a while.

Major MOJO failure, along with life etc kept me away from the bench.

So, to get myself going again I have decided to take on the Hurricane that my good wife started but she lost interest in the hobby (Building the kits), although she supports me fully.

This is where she left it.

A quick look shows that all is there and heading in the right direction.

Off for a smoke and cuppa.

Stay safe.

Simon.

Ciao

I have done Giorgio, and the best regards to your family as well.

This could be a slow build, but I have decided to follow the colour call outs in the instructions just for my sanity.

I will hopefully post some work tomorrow.

Stay safe.

Looking good Simon, it's not a perfect kit but builds well & looks a helluva lot like a Hurricane when done. A good mojo restorer indeed. :)

Steve.

I started my Hurc in January 2018 and stopped work on it after I effed up the top camo during my first real airbrush usage, in September 2020.

By that standard, you're moving at lightspeed!

Erm, the internals are aircraft grey green, not dark green. That's for the external camouflage.

A look around the "Walkaround" section shows dark green.

I know that they are usually Grey/green but I am following the instructions on this one as I stated earlier in the build, just for peace of mind.

Stay safe.

And the undercarriage bays should be painted aluminum, as per the kit instructions.

But it's your kit so paint it any way you wish.

Ah! I see the issue now!

You're building the Starter kit that comes with 4 paint pots and the instructions paint numbers have been changed to match those four colours!

Please disregard my above comment! Carry on!

The instructions call for Humbrol 78, which is Matt Cockpit Green.

Chris

They don't , Chris, they call for Humbrol 30 Dark Green, and 90 for the wheel wells

It's a Gift Set so all the colour call outs are limited to the paints supplied with the kit, so they're not very accurate in places

@Spookytooth - Chris's given the correct colours for the aircraft despite what Airfix tell you in the instructions - your call on what you want to paint it though, it's your model 🙂

Yes, I see that now. I went back to the start of Simon's build and saw it was the Starter kit he was using. I then went downstairs and checked the one in my stash.

That's when I realized what Airfix had done. My bad!

Nowt done today but I did manage to get a couple of bits done last night.

Nothing much dear chap, a cheap joint from the local freezer centre, a couple of hours in the oven, throw in some roast spuds, carrots, leeks and onion, bit of gravy, voila dinner.

Plus sandwich filler for tomorrow.

Yes it`s a seam and a half mate, possibly the angle grinder LOL.
