I've got the Mk1 Danish/19 Squadron release last seen somewhere around the tree line of Stash Mountain and I must say it looks pretty darned nice. With hindsight though I wish I'd got the 74 Sdn version as those tiger markings look great.

Go for it, Bill! I already have the Munich all-black version I converted many years ago from the Heller Gladiator (a surprisingly easy conversion, by the way), but that won't keep me from buying this Finnish version.

Regards,

Jason

I didn't know about the black one, it looks quite odd in that scheme.

Did you go all the way and extend the wingspan? I didn't, once upon a time (but unless viewed next to a Gladiator it's really hard to spot).

As for eh 74 squadron Tiger markings on the top wing, it is only fair to point out that they are hotly disputed, and most respectable aviation historians these days reckon they are spurious, despite being the feature that everyone justly remembers from the magnificent painting on the cover of "On Silver Wings" by Owen Thetford.

My personal view is that I don't care whether they are spurious or not, I'm having them on my models, but I know a lot of people here are very history-consicous.

Maybe they have addressed the strut problem...... or maybe not.

Looking at that build of yours with the Gladiator next to it.. would the struts be the same length as those? It would save time measuring out.

Although... new plastic parts? Maybe they did correct them.

I'm afraid the 'all plastic parts' just means that the resin engine & cowling have been replaced with a small frame of injected parts. My guess is also that these re-releases don't have PE parts either, so probably a plastic IP and seat belts as decals.

But we won't know about the struts before someone  buys a kit, AZ never bothers to post photos of their releases. It's so easy nowadays with social media, but maybe it's meant that we should buy a pig in a poke.

Typical AZ... Their kits can sometimes be okay for assembling but if you start comparison to actual photoes.... normally you would discover 1) straight errors, 2) ignorance of different versions of the same aircraft.

And this is aggravated by unstable molding quality and always very thick and distorting transparent parts.

Just one nuance regarding AZ attitude to kits production. Compare their boxarts. The three boxarts for Gauntlets are basically the same aircraft picture. Different markings and colours applied. Mk.I mirrored and two-blade propeller is drawn. Also Finnish aircraft is at different angle compared to RAF one. And that happens with each AZ box recently. They use the same aircraft picture trying to make it look differently :) Nothing too super bad with that. Just demonstration of approach and attitude.

Most manufacturers keep improving, but AZ seem to be regressing with the the overall quality of the product. No resin or photoetch provided anymore, and the decals are too often very bad.

Unfortunately that is the sad truth. Some others like Sword also put less goodies into the boxes these days. However the plastic quality probably gets better. Also Sword supplies very good decals in the boxes.

Others like MPM/Special Hobby made a quantum leap in terms of plastic quality so that resin is not really needed in their boxes anymore (still use of Eduard 'decals' in SH boxes is not a good thing).
