  1. I have built one RS Models kit, Reggiane Re 2005, and have four other kits in the stash, BFC-2, Caudron C-445, Cr. 714 and MB 151. They are all really nicely molded, practically flash free. So I am just surprised that these Lightnings are so different, maybe the moulds are made from another material, or very worn. That's all. Maybe I should have added an emoji, so that everyone can recognize a joke. Plastic doesn't have feelings, as far as I am aware.
  2. Thank you to all for your advice. I should add that I am not aiming for a perfect finish, I don't think it's realistic for me, so I try not to be too upset when the finish is not any way near as good as experienced car modellers do achieve. It's the same with NMF aircraft, I have lowered my standards, as I hate doing the same things over and over again, sanding, priming, polishing etc. In my case I get most satisfaction from the finished model, so I don't want to spend too much time chasing perfection.
  3. One of the worst thing about airbrushing is the dust particles that get stuck on the painted surface. I have managed to mitigate the problem after starting to use mainly MRP and Mr Color lacquers. But especially when a wet coat is needed, particles of this floating lint gets on the painted surface. Usually I don't care if the finish is not totally perfect, I build aircraft and most of the time a final matt varnish will hide the imperfections. But I have a 1/24 Ford T Model from ICM on the way, and they also just released a new A model which I'm interested in. Glossy paint exacerbates the dust problem, so I'm thinking that I maybe would use a spray can or a portable small compressor & airbrush, and paint the parts requiring glossy paint outdoors. My actual question is, how much stuff there is floating in the air outdoors, would it make a difference? I was surprised when last summer one day I noticed how the air was full of small floating particles, they were visible against the light. Looked like the dust we have indoors. Are they there the whole time, but they are not just visible?
  4. Looking at these pics, I wouldn't be surprised if you told that the moulds were made out of soap: https://www.mojehobby.pl/products/P-38G-Lightning-50595676.html#gallery_start Maybe there is special hell for modellers where you have to suffer all eternity cleaning parts like these.
  5. Still no photos of the parts, only a drawing of the decal sheet: https://www.rsmodels.cz/p/426/92289-f-5c-lightning Does the shark moth decal have wrong shape, when comparing to a photo? Or is it just the angle of the photo? Colour photo: https://www.americanairmuseum.com/archive/aircraft/42-67119 Foxbot have both Ginger Snap and Dot + Dash in their Pin Up sheets 72-066 and 72-067. RS versions of the pin-ups look a bit rough, especially Ginger Snap.
  6. Good morning Patrice, yes it seems unlikely that Tamiya would release 1/72, when they don't even bother with a new Spitfire mk I. Everyone is releasing 1/72 Lightnings, but not the right ones, not the original good looking P-38! Arma Hobby would be my preferred manufacturer, but would of course be more than happy with an Airfix kit.
  7. Yes it is very strange. Academy's kit is already 20 years old, the newest kit that is not a short run kit. I'm pretty certain I wouldn't enjoy building a RS kit, but if these F-5s are based on the Academy kit, they go together well, so I think I'll get one.
  8. They are not rivals, Academy a big Korean company, RS model a small short run kit manufacturer from the other side of the world. RS is just content if they can make some profit, that's what matters.
  9. 👍 I hope you are doing well Juan. I don't see either why it would be a surprise that they are based on Academy. And RS doesn't need to have a "connection" with Academy, Academy has already sold the same plastic to Italeri and MPM. KFS is a knowledgeable source, and I would trust what he wrote.
  10. You are not polite, are you? Here's the link. You are welcome. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235139258-rs-_-new-p38-late-version-family-in-172/
  11. @YorkshireT I suggest you get a razor saw blade, with very fine teeth. It will help removing the most fragile and thin parts. IIRC Eduard's D.ViI has pretty small sprue gates, so I think you'll be fine with regular nippers, but in the future a razor saw blade will be useful. You don't even need a handle, I usually remove the most fragile parts holding the blade with my fingers.
  12. Although not actual automotive paints, but hobby paints, Zero has at least two British racing greens. I just bought my first car kit, ICM Ford T model Speedster, and I'm thinking maybe that green could be a nice colour for it too. Does anyone know if Zero lacquers can be mixed with MRP?
  13. I used that to paint Amy Johnson's Gipsy Moth, the acrylic version. It's difficult to decide which one of the Comets to build, red, green or black? Usually this kind of uncertainty will lead one to get more than one kit.
  14. I'm already starting to worry what paints would be suitable for the red and green ones. Could something like British racing green be good for the green?
  15. When Eduard had their pre-order campaign for the 1/48 P-51B, did they also sell overtrees?
  16. I ordered two of the Toko Nieuport 11/16 kits, and reserved an Eduard Nieuport 17 Dual Combo, for the wheels, windscreens, guns, roundels etc. The Part sets are available on mojehobby, Nieuport 11 set is about 6€, but I dislike PE so much, that I won't get them. Part has separate set with different kinds of seats, from it I'll get one that has a short backrest, according to photos I found 11 had that kind of seat. Really wished Gaspatch would make also other 3D printed seats, not just wicker seats. I reserved a Printscale 72-257, which have some very tempting Nieuport 11 schemes. At least they don't shatter, but the decals are tricky to use, so I'll try to use as few of them as possible, using Eduard or Almark roundels. Speaking of which, do you know about the correct shade of the French roundels, particularly the blue is much lighter on Almark and Eduard roundels, Printscale blue is much darker.
  17. What really confuses me is why the copper pipes on the Le Rhone engines sometimes come from the back of the engine, sometimes they are on the front. Is it based on the version of the engine? Eduard's instructions for their 1/48 Nieuport tells you to glue the PE parts to the back of the engine. But then I see built model with the parts on the front: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235005202-nieuport-11-n°872-jean-navarre-april-1916-verdun-eduard-148/ Did Nieuport 11 with Le Rhone 9C have the pipes on the front and later models on the back?
  18. Thanks Paul, for some reason I receive the email notifications from BM with a 10 hour delay. Yes, Toko 11 and 16, speaking of which, yesterday after looking at the parts more carefully, I'm not so sure if I want to get more of them. Compared to Roden's quality, it is much lower. That very light grey plastic colour makes it look worse than it actually is. And there's no windscreen, just plastic that has been moulded on the fuselage halves. Maybe an PE windscreen from Eduard's kit will fit. It's unfortunate that Eduard never released a 11 / 16. KP announced in January that they will release one, so I might wait for that. Although knowing them, it's probably not going to be so great, either. After seeing photos of their Nieuport Triplane and the fabric texture, I'm not so optimistic. Or maybe they will copy the Toko kit. I have those Windsock books as pdf files, and after scrolling through all the photos, I'm starting to think that the size difference in wheels might be just an illusion, caused by the photos been taken from different angles and distances. I measured the Toko wheels, they are 10mm, and Eduard Nieuport 17 wheels are 9mm, so they are noticeably bigger, espacially in 1/72.
  19. I'm thinking about getting a couple of Toko Nieuports, I have already one in the stash. But I am puzzled by the wide range in wheel sizes that can be seen in photographs and and museum aircraft. What is the reason for this, where the big ones added later on the field? Toko has unfortunately tooled only the big ones, if I were to go for smaller, what options do I have? I don't think there's any aftermarket ones available.
  20. So is the RC boxing planned for July release, and Limited for August?
  21. "A separate set of 1/72 scale etchings will be prepared for the interior and exterior of the SM.79 Sparviero bomber by Italeri, and we will also produce a Zoom set for it." Really happy for this news. I wonder if the etched sets are totally new also, or re-releases of previous ones. They will also release Space 3D decals sets for it.
  22. I think there will, in their blog Bristol Bulldog was referred to as the only announced 1/48 kit so far, I don't remember the exact words, but I thought that it hints there will be more to come.
  23. I did manage a couple of times. I consider that as one the greatest accomplishments in my life.
