  1. Nice tip, I use nuts and bolts, held in by epoxy, never considered candle wax...…...worth a try, thanks for that tip
  2. At 72 years old, my stash continues to grow, must be close to 200 and still buying, Alis Hunter conversion being the latest, plus last week Dynavector Scimitar...…...I know they will never get built as I still have endless KFS 1/24 AFV, 1/35 Accurate Armour to finish, plus Meng D9R Bulldozer, all 80-90% complete...……...and endless others to complete, Dynavector Gannet, Wyverns...….great at starting, but not too good at finishing. I used to post my builds on Britmodeller, but when I found articles and photographs ADDED to other peoples collections on the web/pinterest I stopped posting builds. As for Out of the Box builds...….I was of the opinion it was just that, out of the box, if its states in the article Out of the Box, which part do they NOT understand? I find some out of the box builds bend the rules by saying its out of the box, and the seat came from this box and the wheels came from this box...…...true, you can say its out the box, but when I used to buy a magazine it was just that, straight out the box, and no extras. As for Talc and dope, you would never expect to see that at Telford, BUT you did see loads of Super glue? I use Talc and Superglue now and for complicated parts I use silicone mold
  3. After about 10 plus years of not buying any model magazine, I decided to treat myself to a magazine this month(I did browse magazines in Smiths, but nothing really induced me to buy) I found I had been correct in NOT buying magazines? I agree whole heartedly with ckw and Mr T in the posts above ..……the model makers submitting builds or commissioned to build for articles no longer know what OOB means as during the build, they will let slip they replaced the cockpit seat followed by an after market wheel set, etc etc, some modellers in the write up name the paint they are using and if the colour is not right, the ratio of various colours used, weathering pre- shading, nothing to do with a straight forward build...……..photos becoming smaller and smaller, this is not OOB, not only does this increase the cost of the kit, but for beginners who have not worked with resin before, could present problems...…….What was advertised as an easy kit to build soon takes on large job and a straight OOB build becomes an endurance test. What annoys me more than anything, I checked out Smiths recently, every magazine seems to build the latest released models at the same time and consequently most magazines have the same content...…….As Mr T says above, a complete lack of articles of/for conversions of kits...…..I hope somebody does a kit build and conversion of the recently released Airfix Hunter and the Hawker Hunter T7 conversion...…..Alan Hall always ran conversion topics in his magazine and how to achieve a wonderful result. We need more conversion topics and somebody that knows what Out Of the Box means
  4. Just received from Ali his 1/48 Hawker Hunter T7 conversion set for the Airfix Hawker Hunter......looks a superb conversion and the decals are outstanding, just when I needed more loft insulation for Christmas!
  5. Thanks for the RAF T7 conversion kit, it arrived about 1500 today with the brass wheels and underwing pylons. Nice packaging and love the decals...……...currently downloading the instructions from your site Best wishes Raymond from Bournville
  6. You cannot go wrong with this site...……………..swap meets, toy fairs and model railway exhibitions...…………….all places to stock up on kits spare parts and tools, I go mainly to all 3 but generally for spare parts and tools, pin vices, glue, paint, kits and anything else needed...……..not all fairs carry everything, but, it passes an hour or so and brings temptation to the fore https://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/swapmeets Just put in your postcode and the radius that your prepared to travel to
  7. Hi - Your very right about contradiction on you tube, but each video adds knowledge, one video may confirm what you suspect, then another adds something you didn't know about, another will tell you ways to detract from a kit build to build a kit better than the instructions suggest. Before I bought my H&S airbrush, I must have watched in excess of a dozen videos on various airbrushes, going back and forth...….I find the more videos the better, you soon get to know the owners of the videos and which ones to ovoid...…., a lot of people on YouTube enjoy there builds whilst other who have a large following, Flory, Genisis but to name a couple are to interesting by far!! I spend more time watching their builds, reviews and demos that before I know it, 4-5 hours of kit build has been lost through watching these fabulous sites...……..horses for courses...……….I dip into these sites more than I do Britmodeller
  8. I agree with Gorby………..after 40 plus years of modelling I too no longer wash or clean the parts(not even resin, I model 1/24 KFS and accurate Armour, never had a problem yet, Just finished the 1/24 Stawart……….never washed it and its fine) The only time I wash a model is if I do a lot of conversion work with a saw, or dremell(no - I don't wear a mask either) if the kit requires filling big parts I use super glue and talculm powder, then I do wash) but for a general build I rarely wash the model unless I am forced to. Its a mater of personel preference...………...As mold technology has moved on from the old days, sprues have become more friendly, so find no reason to wash the kit
  9. Anytime your not sure of anything and need info fast, kit builds, reviews, compressors, how to paint with a brush/airbrush, how to make or thin paint, etc, etc, always turn to YouTube, these are real time films actually taking you through the process, not words on paper which can leave you confused...……. I always do this, even before consulting Britmodeller. Britmodeller is good, but not as good as YouTube...…...if I cannot find answers on YouTube, then I revert to Britmodeller, but in over 20 years I have never had to revert to asking anything from Britmodeller. Here is just ONE(there are plenty more reviews) relating to the particular airbrush your interested in:
  10. Here we have a full kit review of the Land Rover Kit
  11. This months (December) Airfix Model World does a full kit build on this kit as well as the Airfix Hunter F4...…………...First one I bought in over 2 years, all because I wanted a Calendar for next year!!!
  12. I would think......looking back into history, markings would remain...……..second world war....all soft skin vehicles were issued to units, same with aircraft and ships...……..identifies squadrons and units were applied asap once possible......helped tell individual units what other forces were in your vicinity......if fact, today you can purchase oodles of books on markings of any countries taking part in the second world war, United States particularly, even the German forces could be identified. Besides, having personally come from an armoured regiment when there were in excess of 14 armoured regiments, all with there own tack signs sqdn and troop identity, today would not matter as there is now only one armoured regiment, one tank transporter Sqdn, so, easy to guess which regiment the tanks and transporters come from. With the shortage of troops and reduction of equipment in the armed forces I imagine what would happen today is what happened to the V-Force all thos years ago, all a/c would be "pooled"......many Vulcans and Victors, VC-10s, Britannias, Hercules, Argosies were pooled, but many carried there old sqdn marking until it came up for repainting on a refurbishment...…...I expect Army and Raf to be pooled, navy only has 1 and half aircraft carriers, 4 subs, only 1 at sea at any time and warships a bit thin on the ground, have to wait and see, that's my opinion
  13. Why do people continually slang this model off!!!! Most of what is wrong with the kit is in the first 2 pages of this thread, people continually repeat and expand the faults and say they prefer the one that's not been produced yet? Why don't you leave the poor guy alone, when he put that kit up for sale he did so in good faith, this site has a lot of moaning modellers, if you don't like his kit by the next one that comes along, don't bother saying that "we want to know the faults", - that the common answer to all critism of new kits coming on the market...………...same can be said for the owner who is thinking of producing a better VC-10...…….never heard somebody slang off the oppositions kit as much as he did until the mods stepped in and told people to comment ONLY on the MACH kit, his critism soon changed - very spiteful the way people are ripping into this kit...………...learn from the faults of the current topic, where he went wrong you are aware of and hopefully can ovoid the pitfalls...………..I have no interest in VC-10s but do read various threads and this one in particular seems to be very vindictive ……….the thread should be closed down as everything that needs to be said about this kit has been said
  14. I spotted those Paul, but, rather than report them straight away decided to wait a little as I knew MORE "NEW VULCAN" would be starting up......decided to see if the mods were on the ball and if they would issue an observation as to previous posts......then either somebody else would report them or I would eventually report them...…………..I have noticed a lot of other new posts cropping up asking for help on a subject already running or started running the week before...……,,,Phantom springs to mind as does "just got a new airbrush/compressor" how do I use it??? All recent and all available to anybody bothering to do a search of this site(via Google_ just put your interest in the Google search engine and finish it with Britmodeller……….it can take days to go through what the search engine brings up - Rant over
  15. If you bother to do a search on the past Britmodeller topics you will find loads of answers to this...…...heres just one of them from 2013 just to start you off:
  16. I like them, they do the job and who but somebody whose is familiar with the aircraft is going to know any different...……….being stood on its wheels in a display cabinet or stand, who will dare to pick it up
  17. that's brilliant, I would however be tempted to get rid of the base, spoils your work
  18. Try model railway shops, as a rail modeller always using it to replace boiler hand rail, steam pipes, hand rails for getting in and out of cabs, smoke box doors...…….when building 1/35 vehicles, always dipping into my model rail stuff, as to size I tend to rely on anything between 3 - 5mm, as mentioned earlier, tend to rely on Mark 1 eyeball, even though, 4mm maybe just about right, nearly always go upto 5mm
  19. I find that whenever anybody on this and any other site decide to build an RAF Sabre, the wing characteristics comes up.....its so confusing to a beginner as to what wing and mods were incorporated into this aircraft. People who know this aircraft reasonably well think that writing lots and lots of technical jargon will solve the problem, when in fact it only adds to it...……...a picture speaks a thousand words, a diagram even more to show the variations...…..my motto, or so I have been told is KISS Keep It Simple Son!!! I built a Sabre sometime ago and found Roger Lindsay's Cold War Shield and Duncan's book a great help...………..the forums on here have plenty of Sabre builds, all more or less talking of confusion and covering of the wing chord. I thought this one particular build that l showed explained to the beginner just what people are talking about when the subject of Sabre wing configuration is brought up
  20. A past Britmodeller Sabre topic may help demystify the wing confusion...………...check thread 7 for diagrams of various wing configuratrion
  21. Here we go - try this :- https://www.florymodels.org/reviews/2019/10/2/airfix-172-buccaneer-s2c-review
  22. Nice build, its a shame they are spoilt by the Photobucket logo, is it not possible to fade those logos a bit to see the full detail of your work?
