  1. I like it! Simple but distinctive. I haven't seen the movie, but I'll be looking for it now! Like the display too, I can hear Doris Day singing in the background.... DennisTheBear
  2. Q - How do you get an RAAF F-111? A - Buy a block og ground and wait! (One of my uncle's told me that in the late 70s or early 80s.) A beautiful build and great paint job there! And a superb base! Kudos all around. DennisTheBear
  3. Very nice model! Love the colour scheme! You do have camera controls on most smartphones, so you can vary the exposure somewhat. You just have to RTM.
  4. Google Earth only shows what the place looks like now. Wartime restrictions meant limited travel by civilians. Even if the locals could see the aircraft it doesn't follow that they knew the differences between standard and specialized aircraft, especially if the differences were minor or hard to see at a distance. The wartime population of civilians was probably less than a thousand, considering that a lot of men and even some women were in the services. As to the major road you have to ask who was using it. As I pointed out thete would have been limited non-military traffic.
  5. Ahhh, the way a MODEL BIPLANE should be, sans rigging! I will now change my name and move to Bolivia to avoid all those with AMS who are now after me.
  6. As a young 'un I was only ever able to get Matchbox or Airfix kits, and then only if they were on sale (I've got 3 sisters, so the family toy budget was not great). I remember the first "heavy" I got was the Airfix Stirling, probably with birthday money. Strangely enough I don't remember building it, just playing with the finished model. But it was GREAT having that Stirling, and going to the school model club and showing it off! Ahh, the callowness of youth was wonderful. Snigger!
  7. Sorry, was really not awake and thinking when I posted that! Really was a small place far from anywhere when they were there. My thought would be that it was underutilised by that stage of the war, and keeping them away from observation might have been a reason for being there. I'm sure the town enjoyed the boost of income from their presence though.
  8. Got the same kit except it is a 1975 boxing, so watching with interest!
  9. Oh, like them! I've had a vague concept of something similar for an RAAF squadron but just haven't got around to turning it into an actual idea yet. Nicely done with the rigging, too. Dennis
  10. One thought comes to mind about using Narromine as a working up base. It was near an aircraft factory, so any damage to aircraft could have been assessed quickly. Dennis
  11. Nice build! You should do the other Thuds and make a diorama! Dennis
  12. Very nice build! And no, you can never have enough in your stash! I've tried telling MrsTheBear that, but she just frowns and sends me to my (modelling) room.
  13. Oh, nice build and great paint job! Sorry to hear about the "Book Incident".
  14. Oh, nice job! Definately one for the living room, just don't let your SO (significant other, if you have one) or kids (if you have any) clean it because "it looked dusty". Dennis
  15. Not too shabby for something finished using the spares box. Wish my efforts could be so good looking! Dennis
  16. Totally agree. You can almost hear the growling of the engines just looking at that!
  17. Deleted - not the wanted area.
  18. Ahh, darn! Only thing in my back shed is cobwebs, which look like they've been there since the war.
  19. Oh, nice! Congratulations on placing third! I have no doubt that you'll soon be getting 1st place with work like that!!
