Now all I need to do, is 'persuade' the deck to fit the hull.

You might have to replace the rivets.

Are they the right size?

Look like 20mm instead of 19mm to me.

Alright! maybe 17mm

Tom

What was that in old money? 5/8" Unless you were using Whitworth. But please don't start me on Whitworth!

5/8" is about 16mm (actually 15.8787mm) but seeing as Jon @Faraway is rather casual with his measurements I'd be inclined to let it go. 😁 Admittedly that hexagonal planking is rather good. (OOB I think said he would do. 😁)

Regards, Jeff.

Ah……well…….umm.

It is, sort of, I didn’t buy the planking specifically for this build, it’s what I had to hand.

That OOB planking looks great.

I'm very surprised there's no AM/3D for this kit.

I think CMK do/did some U-Boat weapons that might work.

https://www.cmkkits.com/en/ships/u-boot-vii-exterior-set-part-i-turret/

But could be a bit expensive unless your considering a 1/72 U-Boat in the future.

Still, you can always tart up the weapons with some OOB plastic strip!

It’s old, 49 year old kit.

I don’t think anyone did after market stuff back then, and as for 3D……..

Trouble is, there are so few of these old kits about, I doubt it’s worth producing the extras.

Also, the DC's are overscale, but I don't think I'm going to add them.

HI Jon,

I have my 3d model for German DC's that will print well @ 1:72nd.  If you want some, I can easily add them to my next print job and post them to you, costs nothing really

Nice looking model shaping up.  I was tempted by the early E-boats but in the end found more information on the later type so went that route.  The early boats show their luxury cruiser heritage

Cheers

I seem to have jumped forward a bit, sorry to not post more photos.

It appears the next stage will be fitting stanchions for the railings, or more correct, wires.

Jon I built the Revell version a boat of the later version/cabin one of the enhancements I did was making new stanchions out of hollow soft brass(.030") for the cable up top and plastic rod(.030').I made a simple jig to be sure all the rods came out the same length and cut the soft brass by eyeball with a gentle roll under a sharp blade easy peasy.I would dip the plastic rod in SG and just get close to the brass it sucked it up like a magnet.I then got some .015" guitar string and ran it for the cables.

A final pic just for the results if a problem more than happy to remove just trying to show what can be done.

Looks good I have been looking for the kit but not at the crazy Ebay prices.

I picked one up in the kit swap at Perth Scot Nat's last year for £20 think it is a re-box with the red labels.

You have to grab them when you can.  :fingerscrossed:

As you know, I took Steve up on his more than kind offer, for DC's that are actually the right size.

Here is what I've just received........

p?i=6b3b7de7dfdbf5d86400c814a634acd2

Even got the lifting eyes.

p?i=85c71196d70a1d64920dacfe4da75624

As you can see, these are far and away more accurate than the Airfix offering.

My VERY grateful thanks to Steve for his generosity.

Been doing other things lately, so work has slowed a bit here, but I've added a few more bits.

Paint will need touching up in places, but its coming on quite well.

Railing stanchions on and I've added some thread between them.

Mast next then the DC rails and finally, the rigging.

I thought I'd give the DC rails a go.

Compared to a photo of the real thing, these are a bit too long, so I'll give them a trim before I glue them down. And fill the slots where the original ones should have gone.

But with @Steve D 3D depth charges, I think they look much better than the Airfix offering.
