Bob & Rita - figures only, from Airfix's Beach Buggy

Recommended Posts

We've escaped our normal Christmas hubbub by decanting to Mablethorpe this year, so my Blitzenbuild has a much reduced access to modelling paraphernalia. Added to this my ever-so lovely offspring bought me a wet palette for Father's Day, and I must get around to trying it out. I avoid figure painting if I can, and my previous Blitz of the Beach Buggy needs some human involvement as per the box-top, so you could kind of count this as a KUTA as well. With all the bases covered, I'll be starting once we've walked the whippet, and raided the Co-op for supplies.

Four pieces of plastic only!

For lunch, go see if the blitz cafe is open today. It's pure 1940's in there.

I spotted it yesterday - will defo be going there next week if we can - thanks for the heads up.

Only one small session today, (so far) - taking off mould seams is not my favourite modelling task.

Rita looks a bit worried about Bob's driving technique.

You can see a kind of 'before and after' here.

More likely concerned about his wandering arms ......

I'm sure there was a Hammer Horror where an arm wouldn't die - perhaps this is the remake?

I know it doesn't happen very often in the Jockney household, but I seem to remember they would need to swap positions for "spooning"

If Bob's preference is to be the little spoon, who are we to judge? ;)

Rita's had a squirt of primer now that the seams are reduced. Bob's progressing, just need to work out how to make sure the arms can go on and still get him into the seat.

Session time     - 60 minutes

A bit more done, not long before some colour gets applied. Leftovers combine to make a delicious bubble and squeak before we get going.

And here's the lovely couple at the start of the session.

Bob tidied up and with arms on.

Primer applied - gotta love that neckerchief!

Never mind the neck scarf, shouldn't he be on some kind of register with a 'tache like that?

Moulded in the '60s, I reckon it was normal back then?

Some colour on now. The wet palette seems to work ok, even for an acrylic paint novice like me.

More b&s for lunch - unfortunately all gone now.

A bit more colour on the happy couple - layering of colours to continue.

Stopped counting the minutes now as I can't use all the hours on the Great Escape option.

Nicely done! They have actual expressions. Skin tones looks very realistic. Must be start of the beach season for Bob 🙂

I must say the wet palette helped a lot with the painting, coming back and having the colours still fresh for use was very useful.
