Snafu35's Kuta: This is the end.

Hello Grandboof,

Thanks for watching.

And you would not have to wait long, because I am still going strong!

I do not find it very exciting to dive back into a neglected model. In this case, I was a bit bored with this B17 Airfix.
The reasons? Well, I don't really know.
But I got back to it, and the fuselage is finally closed!

I replaced the observer's bubble with a resin cast that I had made from an Academy model:

kuta_316.jpg

and I will add the transparent astrodome provided by Academy.

Why?

Because I am not totally convinced by the shape of the kit piece. You have three interpretations in this picture below, the Academy piece is the smallest.

Here is a graft I did on a Revell kit:

Everyone can make up their own mind, I could be wrong, and does it really matter?

I'm not sure I can make up my own mind...

Odd that the other two are so much bigger (and not like the real thing as far as my mark 1 eyeballs can tell), do they attach differently or something, or are from an earlier iteration of the plane?

Hello David,

Hasegawa and Academy have the same interpretation of the installation of the astrodome, with a bead around it, as well as the similar diameter.

Revell and Airfix offer the same engineering with a large hole to be plugged with the transparent part. But the diameter of the astrodome is much larger, and less blown up.

I prefer the version of the first two manufacturers, so I duplicate on the others.

But you should know that I do this because I am not sane to begin with!  😋 🤪

I put the nose back in the wings of the B17 Airfix.
I think that I will paint them very soon to really feel like I am moving forward.

I have done some, yes-yes!
Although decency tells me not to show you anything.

Otherwise you could say that the modeller likes to get hurt.
Me, especially.

I wanted to use a can of Humbrol paint to find the red I had used to decorate my other 91st BG B17. Of course, a gremlins invited itself to the game, and the paint did not flow very well with the airbrush.

Swearing and stomping punctuated this beautiful rainy afternoon yesterday (I would not repeat the swearing, I promise Mike! :innocent:)

I thought that this dilution would drool under the covers. But no!

It was the Tamiya tape that tore off the Duraluminium Vallejo metal color layer:

 kuta_320.jpg

:yikes:

I then turned to the Tamiya Buffalo to avoid flying the B17 wing.

kuta_413.jpg

I must be damned as a user of Humbrol paint at the moment, as I have also had great difficulty in improving the visual appearance of my pre-shading.
But I managed to do it, that i's the main thing.

On the other hand, representing the burnished metal aspect around the engines was a pleasure, a delight, a bliss...

Hello happy modelers,

I am happy because I'm starting to clean my work surface well thanks to this group build.

I alternate work sites, and I have just finished a truck that I started in June.

I had done a master of REO 28-XS for a craftsman who moulds resin models:

.06_mas11.jpg

This craftsman had given me two copies at an exhibition in Saumur, France. I finished the first one, and lost interest in the second one after I started it.

That's how it was set up:

kuta_415.jpg

I have finished the underside of the frame:

kuta_416.jpg

Go, to the paint:

kuta_414.jpg

Great, I finally finished this thing that's been sitting on my desk!:

kuta_418.jpg

CRYSTAL KLEAR is not yet dry in the headlights!

I finished putting some details on the B17 Airfix model:

kuta_417.jpg

it is ready to paint:

kuta_419.jpg

I did some sheet metal work to make the small hatch for the rear gunner:

kuta_420.jpg

This gate is located under the right stabilizer, it is a funny little detail for my B17 collection!

I'm putting some on the Buffalo's paint, too:

kuta_512.jpg

but:

kuta_511.jpg

I promise to keep my comments to myself!    😇

To be continued,

Regards,

Eric-Snafu35

More flak damage ahead? My only suggestion, which you probably know already is to take some of the 'stick' off the masking tape first by sticking it to the back of your hand first

Meanwhile it looks like maximum effort on all fronts!

I was probably not good at it that day!

The last parts of the Buffalo are ready, the final assembly is on the horizon:

kuta_514.jpg

I have almost finished painting the second B17:

kuta_513.jpg

I painted some extra panels on the wings with Alclad aluminium. The result looks interesting.

I am going back to the workshop, because will I be able to tinker tomorrow, after the meal? :eat::sleeping:

Good morning,

I finished my little 1/48th scale Tamiya flying barrel:

kuta_515.jpg

It is not my best build, but at least I finished it!

kuta_517.jpg

Will I now be able to finish this B17 Airfix before 31 December?

  • Snafu35 changed the title to Maximum effort: B17 in 1/72. Next objective: finish it before 31 December?.

Hello,

I have not done anything for two days on this B17.
It is high time I woke up!

Tally Hooooo!

I warm up the airbrush for the next step:

Hello VP,

Thank you for your message.
It should motivate me, as I feel like I have been bitten by a slug today; I am not moving fast.🐌

kuta_613.jpg

I also had some bad luck, because I used US Hasegawa decals that have aged very badly; they are falling apart in the water!:(
I am also using Kits World decals, and I will have to paint some black triangles. I do not have any with the right size A.

But I do not have to paint the de-icing boots black, because the technique had changed on this block.:yahoo:

Well, December 28 is over, only three days left!

Hi VP,

Thank you for your suggestion, however I have made covers to paint the letter in the triangle:

kuta_614.jpg

I was inspired by photographs ( as usual) to represent the oily stains on the wings:

kuta_615.jpg

I painted them with my airbrush, I do not think that I will add oil paint like the previous one. The Wright Cyclone's ate oil, but I am not going to overload this Flying Fortress.

And I will unfortunately not finish it for this year 2022.

kuta_616.jpg

I glued the wings, and I am not very satisfied with the wing-fuselage junction; a gap remains important, I will fill it with white glue.

Let's enjoy the upcoming New Year's Eve, and let's meet again in a few days for the end of this construction.🍾  :eat: :fool:

  • Snafu35 changed the title to Snafu35's Kuta: B17 Airfix 1/72, almost finished.

Hello people,

I have finally finished this B17G Airfix.
It is a good thing because I was starting to feel the weariness.

Here it is:

kuta_617.jpg

This picture shows the access gates for the crew:

kuta_618.jpg

The following photo shows a paint job to represent the dirt on the engine nacelles:

kuta_621.jpg

Riveting is always visible.

Last photo of Madame Shoo Shoo on the tarmac at Bassingbourn:

kuta_620.jpg

And for fun, a picture of the two flying fortresses that I was able to finish thanks to the emulation of this group build:.

kuta_711.jpg

I finished the projects I had in progress.
...And I found two more, which I had completely forgotten about!
But I'll keep them for the Kuta 2023! 😋

I will keep an eye on your builds, however I am going to get ready to participate in the Salty Sea Dog GB.

Thank you for following my adventures,

...And have fun in modelling!

Regards,

Eric-Snafu35
