Another addition to the Frog post-war FAA collection, this was the Toko (Ukrainian?) boxing which comes with a nice set of decals. The plastic was of the somewhat soft waxy sort which I hate working with. I would quite like to do another of these but would probably look for an old Frog boxing to get a slightly crisper moulding and more rigid plastic.

I made a few "improvements" including shelving off the cockpit area behind the pilots seats and adding the intake splitter plates. The nosecone was filled with lead shot and white glue. The fit was somewhat rudimentary with a lot of filler and sanding needed at the wingroots and where the tail booms meet the wings. There was a distinct step left at the wing tip tanks when I joined the two halves of the wings which needed a lot of sanding to elinimate and I think I flat spotted the tanks in the process. Something to try and improve on next time!

Undercarriage came from the Aeroclub white metal set. Painting was Gunze XDSG over Sky with Gunze Tyre Black radome. Don't forget the annoying wrap around of the XDSG under the wings!

My usual disaster was a great big speck of something that appeared on the inside of the canopy after I removed the masking. I ended up ripping it off and then having to fair back it in with white glue and respray. It looked neater first time around!

Have now done Frog Bucc, Sea Hawk, Sea Venom and Gannet - may give the Wyvern a miss as I have the Trumpeter one although the profusion of parts in the latter scares a Matchbox/ Frog loony like me!!

My jammy cousin picked up a Frog boxing with the Airwaves etched brass sets,Aeroclub seats and vacform canopy

from an "under the table"box at Northwest Millitaire in Crewe.

He paid the princely sum of £2 for it,the lucky, lucky borsteward. :fraidnot:

"Ooh"he said,"I've always wanted to do one of these" :yahoo:

I thought "Yes,I bet you have, and not with those goodies for that price"

Really nice build. I've just picked up the same kit today and I'd be delighted if mine turns out even half as nice as yours.

Do you have a piccy of the underside? The kit I have has some odd instructions in Russian and shows some form of tube/rail under the wings. It's not the rockets as they are the other option. I'm trying to figure out what these rails are as they've broken on my kit (rocket rails sans rockets?) If they're unnecessary I'll leave them out.

Thanks for all the comments everyone.

HP42 - I am pretty sure these are supposed to be the launch rails for the rockets. I left the underside clean as I suspect the resemblance of the kit bits to the real rockets and launch rails is somewhat superficial! In most pics I have seen the Sea Venoms have nothing hanging off the wings.

Two-seat Venoms would be a great choice for something a little more up to date!

Excellent model! Any chance of seeing the collection together?

I'm pleased you said that! The rails are snapped on the sprue and I couldn't quite see what they were for anyway. I'll happily give them a miss.

Just one more thing, I notice the kit doesn't have any wheel wells, did you just ignore this or did you have a go at scratching anything? I see there's a photoetch kit available to sort the wheel wells out but I'm not sure if I can be bothered to stretch to the expense and I fancy a quick build anyway.

Cheers,

Phil
