Is anyone waiting on the Border Models Tiger I ?

Here's little more info....

The kit's background

This is a future release, and full information is not yet available. The tracks will apparently be link-and-length with open guide horns. The interior will be only what's visible through the deck grilles.

The version of Tiger is "Early" and the kit calls it "Battle of Kursk", but many different versions of Early Tiger fought at Kursk. Border have released CAD images of optional parts from various dates in a 6 month period. If they correctly handle all the changes over that time, it will be a "first" in the Tiger kit world, where "Early" kits tend to be very specific.

The CAD depicts five different mantlets, including all the major types of that time. Both types of Feifels will be provided. The "wide" turret bin, the "Paderborn" turret bin, and the Panzer 3 bin will be options, all with separate lids. The kit also introduces a new type, where an extension is added to the standard bin.

The kit has a range of external accessories to attach to the tank: "Packages, trunks, ammunition boxes, kettles, buckets, sleepers, helmets, funnels, basins, legs of pigs, air defence identification flag". There will also be barbed wire, typical of s.Pz.Abt.505 Tigers.

The first 1000 units of the kit will include a replica German medal; the Knight's Iron Cross with double swords silver oak leaf.

Yes, Darryl !! Base too.
I plan on expanding my horizons, as I’ve never built a base/diorama/vignette.

It may be a long term project.

Awesome news....we need more vignettes and basses to show off the work ...it makes the weathering more than just an effect ...it gives it purpose and meaning....a muddy tank on a shelf is just that ...give it a base and it becomes a story.

Borders prices have been good, over here.
I’d say in the sub $50 range, possibly.

Side plate as is, and hull nose with some minor damage with a slow Dremel.
Tip... Careful thinning through sanding helps, check the direction Zim takes on different areas of the vehicle, and insure all cement is dry before attempting damage.

well postage was £25 but there were 5 sets in the pack so it was a fairly heavy parcel and it was sent via a fully trackable service.......and the tracks themselves were £27-30 a set so not cheap ....certainly not as good a deal as you got from the company you ordered from....but i guess it might take two or three weeks to get them from China....a guess as i say as i have never ordered from that far away

I'm always wary of good deals on ebay, I double checked they were 1/35th scale and also tracks, not just a small box of track pins.  Fallen for that one before, nice picture of shiny tracks and pins, but all you get are the track pins for £20, that's R-Models by the way.  There were a couple of sellers with MasterClub Tiger 1 tracks at £30+ which were tempting but I don't like the resin track pins.  I was also tempted by sets of workable plastic tracks from Rye-Models (£15-ish) the pain there is adding all the individual track guides, anyone used them?  I will more probably wait to see what these Sanxin tracks are like, the delivery date is from mid-February to April but hopefully I'll see them before that.

The same tracks and photos are on a few different sellers Ebay sites, sometimes under different names with variations in price too.

I noticed that as well, the ones that I ordered were marked as the last set available from that seller but there were several other sellers available.

Out shopping with SWMBO today so no time for modelling, only silver lining, I got the Panzer III Haynes manual for £3.00 😀

Dear Mr. Longbow,

Your efforts with the supplied Zimmerit are looking very good.
I get your point abut slow speed on the Dremel but this is were I need clarification; Are the Zimmerit sheets cast in the same material as the rest of the kit?

I have some ATAK resin in the stash and also the Tamiya "Printed" transfer sheet.
ATAK is very convincing. Tamiya Printed look OK but I envisage some issues in cutting them out.

Looking good - keep them coming ;)

Stay safe, stay sane and happy modelling Friends!

Yes sir, the Trumpeter Zim is the same, plastic, its embossed card, at about 15 thou.
You can sand it down further.

The Trumpeter plastic is very soft. Take care with the super thin cement, and don’t try to sand, cut, or Dremel until it’s fully cured.

I have the Tamiya Zim too, but examining it I decided to go with the Trumpeter.

That front one is S33, but not the same vehicle as at Kursk.

811 at Kharkov was renumbered 831, and was then renumbered again as S33 for Kursk, and renumbered again to S22 post Kursk.

8 Kompanie received replacement Tigers from Leibstandarte, post Kursk, and the photo you have there is one of the replacements, numbered as S33.

Easy way to tell is the loaders turret episcope and the spare track hangers on the turret sides.

Its it’s a great subject.

Hello again Longbow,
I had some very informative discussions on the subject back in 2011 with Mr. Byrden, will check up were his research has landed until today and share with you.

Comment from back in 2011:
"
It had the loader's periscope and spare track holders on the turret; it had the old welded frames for the rear mudlfaps; but I don't know if it had the new sprocket hub, or supports on the engine hatch.
"
Loads o more information in the thread - I will summarize ;)

Stay safe, stay sane & happy modelling!

So mentioned initially as a bit of a joke me and Andy realised that there was a few of us that were looking to do a Tiger 1 project ...the idea was floated to do GB but realising that the earliest it would happen would be a year or more away we all thought a superthread might be the way to go.

This thread will have several builds all under one roof....all Tiger 1's and although a group build it has no time limit and no rules other than it must be a Tiger 1 related build, it was thought instead of opening several threads all dealing with the same subject this might be fun and we get to share some laughs and share info and pics as we build and not clutter the forum with many builds all the same subject.

Anybody can join in and all posts go here ..........

NOW THEN YOU ORRIBLE LOT ....CARRY ON

I guess no-one took me serious with this entry - but I promise I will give it a go!

Hi,
will also have a look at references for sure Dragon (not my point of proof) provided this in the first Zimmed they released, they even had a small PE to cover the gap between front  plate and the upper glacis.

Thought this was also evident in a Villers-Bocague picture - will get back on this subject!

Sry - yes I am on the GT ;)

Sane, stay healthy Friends

Yes, I pulled the top photo off that thread.
That far right of the pic, horizontal plate, sure looks like Zimmerit to me ;)

I’m pretty sure I can live with it :D
