  1. It's nice to see one of these built, I have one in the stash and 2 Revell versions in the display cabinets, I much prefer them to the later D version. Cheers Dennis
  2. That looks great, love the subject as well, I may go down the same route. Cheers Dennis
  3. Sure have Stew, just waiting to get my eyes fixed before I start building again, but there's a Kotare Spitfire and a Revell Hurricane IIb calling to me as well. Cheers Dennis
  4. Great choice, one of my favourite subjects, I even build one in 1/48 scale once as I could not get one in 1/32. Cheers Dennis
  5. Humbrol 120 is still available on eBay, I've just ordered some more. Cheers Dennis
  6. Here's a link showing the box art and marking options for the kit over on LSP, the kit options are all US but there are AM decals in the pipeline for the kit with an RAAF example, RAF versions will surely follow them, looks like a solid nose as well though at Telford there was a glass nose on display. https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/94946-132nd-a-20g-coming-from-hk-models/page/14/ Cheers Dennis
  7. The link posted by Ingo Ritz above contains Edgars thoughts on the matter so I will not dig into my Edgar file. For RAF interiors I always used Humbrol 78, however reading threads like this made me look again and I compared the H78 and H120 with the RAFM paint chips and to me the 120 looked more like the paint chip so that is what I use now, I was shocked that Humbrol has dropped it but luckily I have about 10 tins of it in stock, if i did not have the 120 I would either switch to H78 or Colourcoats ACRN28 RAF interior green. The H120 as well as being good for RAF interiors is also pretty good for Italian interiors. This is only a personal choice nothing technical about it at all. Cheers Dennis
  8. Found this amongst my Edgar notes on the subject of Ocean Grey. Edgar, on Aug 11 2011, 09:16 AM, said: It would be nice if this "Mixed Grey" myth could be killed, once and for all; officialdom never used the title. 5-8-41 D.O.R. sent the following signal,"The DARK EARTH is to be replaced by a colour, obtained by mixing seven parts of SEA GREY MEDIUM reference 33B/157 and one part of NIGHT reference 33B/205." 11-8-41 L. Hardy, for the D.T.D., wrote to Farnborough,"A decision has now been taken to replace the dark earth on day fighters of Fighter Command by a grey colour obtained by mixing seven parts of sea grey medium and one part of Night." He also asked for colour standards (12 needed immediately) and that Farnborough should give the colour a name. A note appended to the letter notes that "Ocean Grey 36 handed to Mr. Hardy 21-8-41." So, there were only 16 days in which the new colour remained unnamed, and a mix of 7 parts MSG + 1 part Night was not a replacement for Ocean Grey, it was Ocean Grey. Edgar This was part of a longer thread on this site. Cheers Dennis
  9. Now that is a rather splendid looking Spitfire, one to be proud of. Cheers Dennis
  10. Just thought, when airbrushing go for thin coats don't try and do it all in one go. Cheers Dennis
  11. Colourcoats paints airbrush beautifully, but mix thoroughly before use, I use a battery stirrer, then I thin 50:50 with thinner, again mix thoroughly. I usually airbrush at approximately 20 psi and the result is a nice satin like finish, which is ready for decals. For thinner I use Xtracolor thinner but Colourcoats thinners would work just as well, it's just that I use both Colourcoats and Xtracolor paints and have the Xtracolor thinner "in stock". I usually leave the paint to cure for a couple of days before masking even though it will dry fairly quickly. Cheers Dennis
  12. When I was nearing retirement I decided to "stock up" with kits, paints, decals reference works etc as I knew I would not have as much money as I would only be on a pension. So the stash was augmented quite a bit, luckily I now only build in 1/32 scale and stick to WW2 subjects only so on average I only buy 2 or 3 kits per year, which is lucky as I am a very slow builder. This is my 1/32 scale aircraft stash which last year I moved out of the loft, the 1/35 scale AFV's, and 1/48 scale aircraft are still up in the loft. I did sell approximately 200 kits a few years ago so this is the slimline version, building models is my main hobby so I like to have a good variety of kits to choose from. Cheers Dennis
  13. The Defiant has been done in resin by Scratchbuilders in 1/32 but it is rare and a very poor build. https://www.largescaleplanes.com/reviews/review.php?rid=1017 there was a build of one on LSP but I think it was not completed. I have seen a completed ID models Defiant but vacs are not my thing. As to resin kits I have built a few, as there was no injection molded kit at the time I did build the resin Aeropoxy Yak 3 which was challenging and two Yak 1b's one Montex and one Alleycat, and because there was only the old Revell kit I did build the MDC Typhoon. If there was a decent 1/32 scale resin Defiant I would build one. Cheers Dennis

    Computer woes

Microsoft keep asking me to upgrade to 11 but I have 3 desktops and a laptop and only one of them is capable of running 11 so I am sticking to 10 on them all. They all run perfectly well though I had to renew the HDD on two of the desktops and the laptop but they are fine, with Malwarebytes and Norton always updated they should see me out. Cheers Dennis
  15. I remember them flying over our house when I was little, a very distinctive shape, probably flying into/out of Liverpool. Cheers Dennis
  16. I've just stumbled across this as I was reading about the restoration, and amassing what information I could find, and what an amazingly good build you have created, I would have put it at least as 1/48 scale. Superb Cheers Dennis
  17. I would (and do) measure the kit ones and cut a mask the same size. Cheers Dennis
  18. Last week I popped into Hannants website to see if my Kotare Spitfire was in stock yet, it wasn't but I had not long read a thread over on LSP about the Hobby 2000 1/32 scale Me 110's, so I strayed off the path of not ordering and clicked the buy button. And this landed at my house today, I have always fancied a desert 110 so in due course I will build this as a stress free build straight from the box. Cheers Dennis
  19. Looks great, ever so impressive, still waiting for Hannants to send me mine. Cheers Dennis
  20. Nice build of a very basic kit, I build one of those in the nineties very early on in my return to modelling, then in around 2004 rebuilt it with new paint, decals, and better detailing. Cheers Dennis
  21. Great information as usual, I'm looking forward to more instalments. Cheers Dennis
  22. Beautiful build, it looks really great, I'm currently building it in 1/32 scale (PCM) Cheers Dennis
  23. Now that looks a proper job, nice work. Cheers Dennis
