  1. The 1964 Kittyhawk kit has a gunsight, although moulded in solid plastic. John
  2. I don't think they were particularly usable. I think I'm going to go for a Canadian example from the Aleutian campaign. John
  3. I remember this getting a bit of criticism when it came out, probably because it arrived about the same time as the Hasegawa kit. I didn't buy one at the time, partly for that reason and partly because I could never get used to the long canopy on a P-40 😀 In any event I built one for the last Matchbox GB and I actually quite liked it. It was a later Revell era release with Netherlands East Indies markings: The one issue I did find was that the seat sits a fraction too high and interfered with the canopy fit. Apart from that, no issues. John
  4. I have a question about the Royal Navy Bedford MK Refueller that Airfix released in a set with a Land Rover a few years ago: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix-a73001-uk-military-support-set-bedford-mk-and-land-rover--170187 The vehicle is finished in yellow, but would the internal cab structure also be yellow? I assume that depends on how they were originally painted when they were built, were they delivered finished in yellow or green - or something else? TIA, John
  5. I started one of these in another GB a few years ago, but it suffered from some short-shots and frankly was absorbing more time than I could give it. Let's try again. Broadly contemporary with the Airfix kit but designed slightly differently: Decals in the recycling: How about this for a nostalgia hit? Must be about 1971: I'll decide on a colour scheme later. John
  6. Something a bit different for me, I'm doing this one in Olive Drab over Neutral Grey: Humbrol 5 Dark Admiralty Grey for the NG and Xtracolor X210 RLM81 for the OD. Shiny, shiny as Haysi Fantayzee once had it. I'll decide on the markings after I've had a rake through the decal stash. John
  7. I appreciate that I'm very late to the party here, but in terms of references for the SAR Wessex the BBC produced a programme about Scottish-based RAF rescue helicopters way back in the late 1980s. It had loads of footage of Sea Kings and, as I remember it, the Wessex. It's possible it may be on YouTube somewhere. If not there was an accompanying book. I think the title was Rescue!. I did have a copy but sadly it hasn't survived the numerous house moves since. I realise that this is hardly a definitive answer but it may suggest a direction to look in. John
  8. I had the Aleutian Tiger. Great fun. John
  9. Fantastic piece of work. My dad was on a trainspotting trip to Thornton Junction that day and watched the action from the cliffs at Kinghorn. A MG15 from one of the shot down 88s is on display in Edinburgh Castle. John
  10. Respect to anyone who can get any sort of result with this kit, let alone as nice a job as this. John
  11. Cool! I did exactly this with SBS decals some years ago: It's actually a very nice little kit - check out the gunsight detail moulded on the windscreem. John
  12. Not the classic bagged release, unfortunately, but one from the Humbrol era. I built one of these for the Kit You Built As A Kid GB a few years ago and added a few details: It sat nicely with my lockdown Revell P-36. This one is moulded in light grey plastic rather than the Airfix silver we all know and love: Instructions and transfers, already in the recycling bin: Humbrol paint references on the painting guide: Final thought, before getting stuck in, just like the Bf109 the 1/72 P-40 hasn't half grown since 1964: John
  13. Let's go hunting Beaufighters. Needs a few loose ends tidied up, but not bad: John
  14. I didn't get this photographed in time to put it in the Gallery, but here we are: Along with the 1950s G and the recent F: John
