No!! Don't bin it at this point! Keep it : 1. As testimony to your perseverance and skill 2. Because it really does look good (as stated above) "from here" 3. Because that would be akin to admitting it defeated you, which certainly didn't happen Now, maybe you don't want to give it a place of honor on your shelf, but still ... BTW, I also have the kit in my stash, and you are inspiring me! Or at least, you eventually will. Congrats!!!

Good heavens! That's amazing, and then some!!

And somebody needs to do some conversion pieces so we can get a proper L.

Help needed on the KP Avro 504K, additional question
Bob C. replied to Shake's topic in Aircraft WWI
Rivets? On the WINGS? 🤨 I guess that's novel. Trusting my memory (fool that I am), I always thought that the beef with the Airfix kit was that the fuselage was under-scale all around? Although I don't remember about the cockpit errors, so maybe my Avro 504K memory is a bit diminished. Best of luck however you choose to go. -
Well, Paul, congrats on getting it finished! Can you give the issue #s for the Windsock refs, please?

OK, folks -- what scale are we talking about?

Furious Swordfish – Airfix 1/72 - completed

Great looking effort, Patrik. I will be revisiting this article when I get to mine -- someday. I was wondering - notwithstanding what the instructions might say - but why put the top wing on first? It would seem that the safer, more sturdy approach would be to fix the lower wing panels first, to set dihedral, and give something sturdy to attach interplane struts to?- 46 replies

An excellent job, Neil. I think you did the colors well. I was alarmed (lol) when you described the underside color as "Neutral Gray", which would have been way off if going by USAAF color description, but obviously, that was just the Gunze (?) description. So, all good. On the other hand, my understanding (NOT to be taken as Gospel) is that Midway -3 used one rear gun, although admittedly you do not specify the squadron/time frame of your build. If it was a later -3, or. more precisely, a -3 later in the war, might have been refitted with 2 guns, but then the national insig would be changed to star-and-bar, not just star? And possibly would/could have been painted/repainted in tri color scheme? Sorry for throwing this possible monkey wrench, but I found this thread just now. Plus, I think I recall that there is some question as to when the transition from 1 gun to 2 actually occurred -- but it was (?) around the time of Midway? Keep up the (very) good work. -
Long ago, Microscale did clear-and-color check decals. Maybe also Scalemaster (?). Microscale actually does still exist -- as Microscale. They make (at least as of about 4-5 years ago) armor decals in various scales, and, I think, some of the miscellaneous decals like stripes and checks. Of course, no guarantee that they would be made in the proper size for your build. Best of luck.

OK, You've all kept me in suspense way too long. You did get the "Don and Dewey" reference -- didn't you? Interesting factoid that I discovered whilst researching for these comments 😁 -- per Wikipedia, the song "Don and Dewey" was a rip-off of a Deep Purple song, in retaliation for Deep Purple ripping off one of IABD's songs. So I guess it wasn't all peace, love and happiness, was it? And I have both of the first 2 albums on LP and CD. Still play them more than occasionally.

Alistair, I normally wouldn't look at a modern aircraft build (me being, with about 2 exceptions, a 1914-1945 guy), but your title intrigued me. So I went through ALL SEVEN PAGES to make sure I wasn't going to be copying someone else's clever observation. So I have to ask, are all you people just kids here? We old folks want to know if, when you finally get finished (and it is a rather interesting build, after all), will you be saying "Wow, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!!!"? Signed, Don and Dewey 😁😁😁 So sorry it'll cost so much money to send all my prizes to the States😉

Your project is coming out quite impressive, Lord R. I'm hesitating to interrupt your RAF sand and dark earth continuity, but I got my patches a couple days ago. I also found I have the Superscale sheet that has the TAC badge on it, in 5 different sizes of each insignia. It is 72-187. so here it is, if I remember how to do this. Again, a truly fantastic job. Congrats on getting to the end.
