Me again....

Not wanting to leave the navy out here are some naval Hurricanes and Sea Hurricanes......starting with;

A Hurricane Mk.I of the Royal Naval Fighter Squadron, which operated alongside the RAF in the Western Desert, using Sea Gladiators, Buffaloes, Martlets, Fulmars and ex RAF Hurricane Mk.I`s. This one appears to be an ex tactical recce aircraft, maybe from 208 Sqn as it has the Italian style"spaghetti" camouflage along the leading edges....designed to make the aircraft look Italian to enemy AA gunners whilst approaching them at low level.

The kit is the 1/48th Hasegawa Mk.I.

Next is the 1/48th Airfix Hurricane Mk.I built as one of the first naval Hurricanes issued to 880NAS in order for them to train on the type whilst awaiting navalised Sea Hurricanes.

This is another 1/48th scale Hasegawa kit, but built using the MDC conversion as a Sea Hurricane Mk.Ib, which took part in the famous Operation Pedestal convoy to Malta. By rights this Sea Hurricane should have a head rest fitted behind the pilot, as the Mk.I`s were fitted with catapult spools for launching from the "booster", although the later Mk.II versions were not fitted out as such, so had no head rest as a result!

Another 1/48th scale Hasegawa kit converted using the MDC conversion but this time as a Sea Hurricane Mk.IIb (or Canadian equivalent?) which took part in the Operation Torch landings...hence the American markings...don`t worry though it was a British aircraft! The incorrect catapult spools on this model have since been removed!!!

To round off this post, here is my favourite model to date, an Airfix 1/24th scale Hurricane Mk.I converted into a Sea Hurricane Mk.Ib!

Sorry if it seems like I`m hogging the site but I just like sharing my models with interested people...

All the best

Hurricanes so rule!

That 1:24 is mint- almost a shame to have that in the same thread as the rest, as it overshadows all of the other superb builds there! 1:24 notwithstanding, the spagetti one is an interesting subject- something a bit less run-of-the-mill, if you can ever class hurricanes as such!!!

Two of my favourite themes - Hurricanes and the Royal Navy. It doesn't get a lot better for me, especially when they're built to such a high standard.

I can see why the 1:24 Hurri is your favorite :thumbsup:

I especialy like the Desert one with the eyetie camo - did you mask that or use decals? Saw a thread on this aircraft elesewhere earlier this month

Glad you liked the one with the Spaghetti scheme along the wings as its one of my favourites too, I actually hand brushed that on with a brush using a photo as a guide, no decals, masking or any other black magic involved, which is probably how the lads in the desert applied it on the real thing!!!!

I don`t recall seeing a thread on this aircraft anywhere....but I`d like to see another one built up or info on the real thing.

Cheers

Love the 'spaghetti'...looks a good deal like the scheme the maintenance crews applied to spec-ops Chinooks during the Gulf-war. I can't help wondering if this WWII scheme might not have been some sort of inspiration?
