Fifer54
Think I'll have a go, need to check out if the candidates I've got in my stash actually took part! Initially, I'd like to enter either a Matchbox Wellington (the GR.XIV option) or Revell's (I think Esci's originally) Dornier Do24T, I believe they flew ASR missions in the Bay of Biscay- does that count as "Battle of the Atlantic"? Erwin
It's going to be the new 1/32 nd Revell Arado 196.
Jazzy Jase
I'm going to attempt this: I say attempt because I've never managed to complete a biplane. They always end up in the bin.
Phil Reeder
Both these aircraft are acceptable,Jassy, are you going to do a Stringbag, with the "Merchant Navy" logo, that oprerated from MAC ships? The Arado will need to be from the Scharnhorst,Gniesenau ,Hipper,or Admiral Scheer,as these were the German ships that preyed on North Atlantic convoys, but not the Bismarck,Tirpitz or Prinz Eugen as those didn`t get anywhere near convoys. The decals I have are for LS276/E2 from the MAC ship Amastra, 1943-
Phil Reeder
I`ve been give it some thought on what I should do for this GB.I think it will be a Scratch-build ,in 350th ,of a Doxford standard merchant ship.possibly the Empire Comet, which was lost with all hands in 1941.These were the British equivalent of the more famous Liberty ship.I have some very large plans of one ,so I try to get them reduced in size a bit.If there is time I may do a RN Escort as well. I hope somemore ship-builders join in as well,we don`t want just aircraft and U-boats!! Cheers Phil
Shar2
Don't worry Phil, I'm considering doing a Flower Class in 1/700 and a 1/350 escort, such as HMS Havelock.

Regards Phil Hi, At this moment the Revell site (link) gives no info on the kit's decals. But I'm sure it won't be that difficult to find suitable code letters. http://www.revell.de/en/products/model_kit...=04688&sp=
Alan P
At the moment I am considering pushing the boat out (excuse the pun!) and doing the 1/72 VIIC/41 with Eduard PE set; though even five months may not be enough for what i want to do with it. My fallback is to hold my 1/400 King George V at the very early stage of building and finish it in 1943 colours before it went east; otherwise find a nice VIIC in 1/144. If there's time left i will also llike to do one of Tamiya's very nice little 1/700 O-Class destroyers. Onward and upward!

Erwin
!!!!!! Hi all, "Atlantic" seems to be a bit confusing for some on the subjects that can and can't be build. This GB is open to all subjects that operated in the Atlantic,North Sea and Norwegian Sea. Maybe we should change the GB's name ? Will consult with the GB Mods on that. Fifer54
Sorry, Erwin, It's a Revell (nee ESCI) Dornier Do24T in 1/72. If that doesn't work out, plan B is a Matchbox Vickers Wellington.

Sorry Erwin, I don't want to appear argumentative, but why include the North Sea & Norwegian Sea campaigns? Surely there's enough subject matter within the Battle of Atlantic itself for the GB without diluting it into almost a Battle of the North Western hemisphere GB? I'm just confused as to why the field of interest needs to be widened so much? Keef
Shar2
I'm with Keef on this one, the battle of the Atlantic was just that, not the battle of all the watery bits around the UK. There is enough subject matter to cover as it is. Perhaps there could be GB's covering the other campaign areas later.
Fifer54
What ever your views on how this GB should be constituted, information on eligibility of particular models will always be welcome. The Wings Palette website http://wp.scn.ru/en/cat/wars/ww2/167 lists the following aircraft types under a "Battle of the Atlantic 1939-45" banner. What I don't know is whether this list is intended to be exhaustive, or only to list those types for which Wings Palette has colour details. Anyway, here is their list, under national headings Canada Bristol Blenheim/Bisley/Bolingbroke Great Britain Armstrong Whitworth AW.38 Whitley Blackburn B-24 Skua Consolidated B-24 Liberator/PB4Y Privateer Consolidated PBY Catalina Fairey Albacore Fairey Barracuda Fairey Swordfish Grumman F4F Wildcat Grumman TBF/TBM Avenger Hawker Hurricane/Sea Hurricane Martin Type 167/A-22 Maryland Short S.25 Sunderland/Hythe/Sandringham Supermarine Seagull/Walrus Vickers Wellington Westland Whirlwind Germany (Nazi) Dornier Do.217/Do.317 Dornier Do.24 Focke-Wulf Fw.200 Condor Heinkel He177 Greif Australia Short S.25 Sunderland/Hythe/Sandringham USA Douglas SBD Dauntless/A-24 Banshee Grumman F4F Wildcat Grumman TBF/TBM Avenger New Zealand Handley Page HP.52 Hampden/HP.53 Hereford I have to say, I'm surprised to see the Hereford in this list, I thought only No.185 Sqn and 14 & 16 OTUs flew the Hereford Hope this helps! CPNGROATS
The US aircraft list should include more types...the USAAF patroled the Atlantic with B-18's, B-24's, to name a couple. The USN patrolled with PBY's and some other amphibious types as well. However, if I were to participate in this GB, I would have to do a U-Boat...'eye of the storm' and all of that...wot? Atlantic Cheers, ggc Edited March 16, 2010 by CPNGROATS

We are perhaps going to wide with the theme by incluiding North Sea and Norwegian Sea too. The GB is called "Atlantic" and there are indeed many subjects that can be build. So we better stick with "Atlantic" only. The best thing to do now is to make a list of subjects that can be build so we don't confuse people anymore.(my fault) Edited March 16, 2010 by Erwin
