Lord Riot Posted April 23 Posted April 23 My first question is when did the single seat RAF Jags receive the mk 3 ejection seats in place of the mk 2? I’m planning to build XX741 as at 1986, would it have had the mk 3 seat by then?

They had Mk 9 seats from the start! and this never changed. later in life the headbox was modified to a different profile. I think the french Jags had Mk 4 seats https://martin-baker.com/ejection-seats/mk9/ 1
Lord Riot Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 Ah, sorry chaps should have been clearer. Airfix’s instructions do say Mk 9, but then either the mk 2 or newer mk 3 version of that. Which would be right?
martinBK Posted April 23 Posted April 23 MK9 MK3 is for desert pink aircraft. French aircraft have JRM4 seat their whole flight life. Looks like this :
Lord Riot Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 I’ll guess from the old thread above then that the changes from mk9 version 2 to 3 probably occurred during the mid 80s, so I’ll go with the second, newer version for a Jag in 1986.
canberra kid Posted April 24 Posted April 24 A list of Jag seat mods, unfortunatly no dates though. The amended page is dated Feb 91. John 2
Lord Riot Posted April 25 Author Posted April 25 Next question, does anyone know what this fuselage strip is under the wings? I’m guess a strengthening plate, which leads me to ask when would that have been fitted? Anyone know if it would have been there by 1986?

All GR's had it from the start Edited April 26 by JagRigger 3

JagRigger Posted April 26 Posted April 26 If you look here https://www.airhistory.net/photos/0094175.jpg the cover is off - note at the rear ( above the hyd connection point and at the top of the fuselage) you can see the rear bonding strip - this is 'internal' once the wing goes on so doesn't need a cover 1 1
