Has anyone else had the good news in Spotmodels and DM kits newsletter e mails that both versions of the Belkits Mk1 Escorts are due at the end of August ? At a not unreasonable €54 , £46 postage extra of course  .

I'd question the phrase good news - I have a limit of one more kit for the year and 5 candidates for that purchase if they all get released (be a bit of a miracle in some cases) by the end of the year. This has just made it 6 candidates...

Couldn't they have waited another year? 😄

I'm with you on that dilemma @Spiny  What I do is buy  kits I WANT to build ( as opposed to stashing them ) and let my family put them away to then give me them as birthday or Christmas presents.  That way I get what I want , not stuff I really don't want or even need !

The Escort was about when I restarted my modelling hobby so missed out the first time and stupid e Bay prices always put me off . So hopefully this time I will be able to build one up before the inevitable happens again.

Thanks guys, just the sort of temptation I probably didn't need but will likely succumb to. Seeing works RS1600s driven by Hannu Mikkola & Mike Marshal on the 1973 Heatway Rally of NZ kicked off an enduring love of Rallying & Escorts. So I really couldn't not. :) Some info on why this rally is still seen as an epic event by Kiwis old enough to remember it.

Steve.

PS, no probably about it now. :)

Yep, not so sure about the 'good news' bit though - so far my 'no more kits' resolve has held firm!

I really don't need any more Escorts having two Belkits, two very nice resin transkits and another pretty rough 'narrow body' transkit, none of which are yet finished...!!

So sensible head says ''NO!'' but daft head says ''but they're Mk1 Escorts, you can never have enough''.....!! 🤣

The number of times I've put off buying a current kit for one reason or another, only for it to go out of production and take on a vertical price hike is beyond number.

Just saying, that's all....

Not going to deny it, when I returned to the hobby that was my take on things as well... and is pretty much responsible for why my stash is the size it is. Having realised that my slow build speed (typically three models a year) would mean my stash would just increasing, I managed to change my attitude to desireable new releases to one of "If it didn't reach number one choice when buying kits, it's not the end of the world if I miss out" I have at least managed to keep the stash size roughly constant.

Fortunately I came to that realisation when the stash numbered 12 rather than 120 😆

Anyway, back onto the Escort. Not going to deny that I did see the price rises [EDIT: Ebay price gouging was what I should have said!] on it with a little annoyance... but will it be in the pole position when the next purchase time comes around? I don't know yet, but we'll see.

You could always go on strike and refuse to buy it?! It's not like anything else in the shops has gone up recently either 🤔😉

Oops! Looks as though I ought to clarify what I meant by price rises and annoyance as I can see exactly where you thought I was coming from. I am definitely NOT annoyed at Belkits for their pricing strategy - they are a business after all and if they don't cover their costs they wouldn't exist and the modelling world would be that little bit worse off.

My annoyance was aimed at myself for missing out when it was released first time around and being subject to the higher prices on eBay as people started asking silly money for the Escort kits. Again, as you say I have/had the option to go on 'strike' and refuse to pay the eBay prices, which in effect is what I did. The price this time around is similar to what they asked for the Metro 6R4 which I was happy enough to buy, and it won't be for the price if I don't get the Escort this time around, just my revised mentality of trying to get more of a 1 in, 1 (or more) out combined with kits I might want evern more!

Anyway, just edited the post to clarify I was referrint to eBay rather than Belkits pricing.

If you think about it, the asking prices of most Out Of Production kits doesn't make much sense. There are normally plenty doing the rounds unbuilt so they're not really getting any rarer...

Thanks for the clarification. I often post things which seem ok in my mind only to reread it later and think that's not what I meant.

I wonder if the eBay speculators will now do what they should be doing with a kit - that's to build it?

Now do I get a kit to build the 1972 East African Safari scheme or finish one, or more of the many part built kits I have on the go?
