JWM
I started to work on propeller for Be-4. I have used likely Spitfire I-V prop from my drawer (cut blades only) and a hub (resin) from some likely Czech short-run The axis is extended using brass tube. I think it looks much better then original one (right on photo below) It looks smaller, but is is still some 1.5 mm too large compare the drawings (in radius, not diameter). I will cut is if it will go to close to cabin. After temporaty mounting on engine: To see if the ribs went OK I painted wing with a layer of Humbrol 125 (the final colour) it is not OK. Every second rib is bigeer than those in between. So I have to re mask and will do ribs again I scribed some panel lines on fuselage, but also Trumpeter device for rivet making on wing, but the result is almost not visible. So I will not do it on fuselage..Unless I will change my mind on this. Bottom of wings looks perhaps better, but I have to paint it to be sure. First I will do oil coolers. JWM
Some more detailing of wing/engine. Be-4 has four ventilation openings on each side behind cowling. I started with cutting stright lines with electric saw. Then I made it a bit wider using piller, then masked with tape desired area of openings abd put some filler in other places. After sanding it looks more or less OK for me: I added belts on seats as well as pedals and control rods inside cockpit. Th ephot was taken before hands of rods were painted black That is all about inside of cockpit. On nose you see masking for hatch immitation. I added oil coolers on bottom of wing, I made it from some half-cylinders (not used air intakes from a vacu kit) You may see here some rivets which I did two days ago. The other problem of this kit are canopies. They are a bit opaque (the rear one is a bit lens like due to different thinkness) I took a Revell Lancaster radome fairing (transparent) and cut out of it a new rear canopy There will be a movable (in real thing) part which will fit to wave-like shape of back edge of this canopy The pilot canopy has also wrong shape - the windscreen is too steppy and the main part should be whole a half-cylinder (rounded) shape whereas that in model in rounded at back and goes squared (keystone) at front. I will do windscreen from styrene (I think I will find some way) and the main part I will do from ... AA battery packege! (most likely). Or I will press it producing firstly appropriate stamp. JWM
Hi, Many thanks for comment. I thought at morning that I will not have time today for any kind of working on model, but it turned opposide... So I did some detailing in rear (gunner) cockpit: mainly the control pannel and seat I glued tailplane on position. I left in not improved (no ribs added) but I hope the wings will do job and frankly speaking - with some 8 days to end of GB I have to go a bit faster... I added also a positioning rods for wing Anyway the main part for today was on engine/wing part. I added external camshaft rods, meybe it is not so well visible on those photos but I added also two air intakes and scribed cowling: I painted first time bottom of wing just to see how the ribs and oil coolers looks like: The side floats were slimmed (from inside, more than 1 mm) and now I glued them together adding the positioning rods and trying to give some aerodynamic shape of struts, which in model are just rectangular in cross section: I have drawings to beech wheels, but I am doing machine from catapult on cruiser, so I am not sure if it applicable to put it on beech wheels... Anyway, it will be continued, I hope Has anybody drawings to Saviet catapult buggy? Regards J-W

JWM
I was trying to do front canopy. I made stamp from wood and tried to do canopy but no one was fully satisfied. So I just cut the windscreen and the main part did from some styrene probe. It was terribly thick but it is also fairly transparent, so I left it As you see i did ribs on tailplane... And I glued the side floats To be continued J-W
JWM
Hi, I've started to mask canopies for brush painting in two steps, in each step I am masking one direction frames using 1.5 mm Tamiya tape. On second day after paintingI do the perpendicular frame masking and painting The wings are painted second time I am going to glue them todetehr (I mean fuselage and wing+engine) after finishing work on canopies. The scheme is one from cruiser Molotov, with white "2" on rudder and stars outlied white. I am painting Humberol 125 on top, thr bottom with Humbrol 65. I will attach forur RS 82 rockets on rails as offensive armament instead of bombs. I am using RS 82 from A-model UTI 4 model (or was it I-16?), but there are only 6, nexct 2 I have to add from scratch. I am also going to do beech wheels, though the machine spent life rether on catapult so I am not sure... But I found Frog Magister u/c as good (or good enough ) donor of main parts. To be continued Regards J-W
JWM
I started to work on beech u/c On right there are wing support struts - each one is extended by about 3 mm to mach the fron view angle seen on drawings. The original lenght will came much vertically, too close to fuselage. The wing+engine is glued on fuselage, the canopyies frames are painted also in second direction You may see above four RS-82 rails added below each wing. The MG is also added (taken from some Po-2/U-2 Russian kit) The end is approaching, I hope to manage finish of Be 4 and Sm 55X,,, Regards J-W

Learstang
Great work on that Be-4 (and also the Be-2), J-W! I used to have that kit many years ago, but I like what you've done with yours! Best Regards, Jason
JWM
Charlie, Stuart, Adrian and Jason - many thanks, I appreciete yours support! This model was a plus twenty years in my stash, apparently I had time to prepare myself to this build . The ribbing done with only paint is my "discovery" from past year, I used it for first time in renovation of mine 40-years old scratch build Grumman Ge 23 (in SCW colours). Then I found that it is much easier than glueing extended sprue etc... fine sanding of paint goes also much faster. So it could be reccomended!
