HP42
I must say I'm really enjoying looking at these diorama pictures and the control tower is sublime. I'd love to see these buildings as a complete museum exhibit with an entire airfield, I know you'd need a hangar in it's own right but it would be fabulous! I've seen the 'freestyle' RAF Topsey in Cosford (was there the other day looking at it, I see more on every visit) and there's a pretty good if condensed attempt at Deenthorpe in the Museum of the 8th Air Force in Savannah, Georgia. So Adey, keep going with the diorama and the piccys!
Mancunian airman
Adey those Control Tower pictures are great, really like the interiors. I too have also built the 518 in a wartime guise. HP42 mentions that you need a 'T2' hangar, would this be a start . . . http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235007179-t2-hangar-anybody/& looking forward to seeing more of your diorama Ian
keefr22
Great stuff Adey, really enjoyable thread - the tower interior is brilliant! And I'm learning new stuff too, I've never seen blue chocks before & I had no idea the Sunderland's beaching gear wheels could swivel! Keep the pics coming! adey m
1/72 AIRFIX BRISTOL BLOODHOUND MK 1 ( this kit first released in 1960 ) AIRFIX Bloodhound Mark 1 with scratch built launch pad equipment. This kit came with the AIRFIX Hercules that my dad bought me for my Birthday in 1970........I wish I still had the Hercules too............... Here I am off to investigate a Bloodhound Mark 1 launch control building and the missile launch pads.. The Bloodhound MK 1 was a fixed missile system which required permanent facilities which were integrated with the UK air defence system. The Bloodhound Squadrons were sited down the eastern side of England and each had 32 launch pads divided into two independent units of 16 missiles each. They were usually sited on disused wartime airfields and provided defence for V Bomber airfields and Thor missile bases. These Bloodhounds are seen defending the Valiant base at RAF Marham. Has he taken that bloomin picture yet, it's bleedin perishin out here ......... That dog has been rolling about in the grass....... A scale Bloodhound Mk 1 launch pad with information obtained from my site visits to disused bases. The original Landrover from my 1970 AIRFIX Bloodhound set. keefr22
That is a gorgeous Argosy Adey, especially given what kit it's from! Keith
wamwig
I'll second that about the Argosy, I have two of the Mach 2 in the stash and haven't had the confidence to start them yet!
cngaero
Your finished Argosy is just simply outstanding. Looking at that and the Basset makes you realise just what a wonderful variety of aircraft the RAF used in this era. I really like the way you've displayed your models, but your control tower is something else.

Radleigh
Fantastic stuff Adey, inspired to finish my Argosy but it's still a long road for me yet. It was good to meet you at Newark, I will keep an eye out for you again.. Would love to see an airfield diorama at a show if possible. Love that Tower!

Gary West
Your bases and buildings are brilliant. I share a similar appeal for ramps, pans, fligh lines form the 70s & 80s when barbed wire and gpmg pits shared the pan with the aircraft.
