  1. I about to purchase the FlyHawk 1109S Flyhawk Hms Penelope 1940 1:700 Deluxe Edition, Can anyone tell me or point me in the right direction where I can find the assembly manual for this build please. I'm looking to find the paint colours or codes required for this model. I'd rather buy any required paints (if I don't already have them) at the same time as buying the kit. Thanks
  2. Hello, after many years of not building a Model Aircraft kit I decided to buy one. Its a Revell Yak - 3 1:72 Level 3 kit. My question is the box says 10 tins of paint but the instructions say 12. Which is correct and also where is the cheapest place to but it? Thank You
  3. Dear Colleagues: does anyone have a good acrylic recommendation for BS.633, the blue-grey used at different times on RAF ground vehicles? Alas, Xtracrylic does not appear to make an acrylic version of its enamel X013. Is there a good combination of Vallejo that might work? They seem to have something that looks like it could be a starter: blue grey 71.115. Thanks! Alex T.
  4. We now have the full range of Tamiya's Lacquer paints in stock and ready to ship! They come in a 10ml bottle and are suitable to paint plastic model kits and come in three finishes, gloss, flat and translucent. The Tamiya Lacquer Paint range can be brushed straight from the tub over small areas, or thinned to be used in an airbrush. Tamiya's lacquer paints feature a quick drying time, robust finish and can be over painted with either acrylic or enamel paints once dry. These paints also do not require the use of a primer and even the gloss colors can be applied directly to the plastic par
  5. After several attempts at locating information that I need, I determined that maybe this has never been done before and should possible have it's own forum partition. I will get to the skinny of my request. Basically, what should a beginning modeller have in their workstation if starting from scratch, before they ever open their first kit and begin building? I.e. For modern warplanes, a beginner should have airbrush, compressor, a list of paint codes to have for, say US Navy aircraft, as well as paints that are used for non-FS painting, but will be used often. Basically the list of
  6. I am making a 1:72 Lanc' and Halifax, one in gloss, one in matt, one in gloss and can't decide which looks better, I wonder what types of paints people us here.
  7. Hi, I can see this topic comes up from time to time and it looks like the best option is Ushabti Bone as the primary layer and NYC Mulberry Street 221b as the top layer... except looks like 221b has been out of production some time and I cannot find it on ebay or amazon. Next option seems to be Halfords Ford Champagne Gold but I cannot find it in the US or on the ebay/amazon. Other option would be using Revell paints except I cannot find the local and getting it from ebay would cost as few bottles of Tamiya or Mr. Color. With all this in mind is there any other good option to getti
  8. Hello everyone, is there a good reference for some of the Warsaw pact air forces camo schemes to western references? For example I know there the excellent range of colors put out by AKAN and I have few of those paints but they can be a bit tedious to get here in the U.S. as they are email order only and I hate to spend twice the amount of money on shipping for one or two bottles of paint and usually the color I need is OOS when I need it. I know that Eduard lists Gunze colors with their MiG series of kits but how accurate are they? Unfortunately Gunze paints are getting scare here as well. So

Hi everyone, My first question and my first real post besides my intro post. As a new modeler I have a question about paints: How do you guys go about your paint buying/collecting. I've tried searching but cant really find any discussions or solid info about this on the web. Do you buy paints per kit or do you buy a handful of paints and only purchase that missing specific/exterior paints? Things like the various greys / greens /blacks, both matt, satin, and glosses. The various metals etc. Is there a list of common colors that a
  10. Hey guys, I am very very new to this site. I am an American veteran, now living in the Philippines. I have had an extremely hard time finding the paints and tools that I need to reenter model building, after a VERY LONG gap. My last build was in the very early 1990's, and I am hoping to get back into the game, so to speak. As I said, living here is not the best place if you need to find paints, tools and kits. I have resorted to using Ebay for most of my buys so far, and it just so happened that I sent a question to a seller located in Hong Kong, with more than 12,000 feedbacks. I was asking a
  11. I'm currently building a few 1:350 scale ships; two plastic kits and two scratchbuilds, and could do with some expert advice on which Acrylics to use when I get to the painting phase. I currently use Vallejo but they are mainly produced for aircraft and AFV colour ranges. From your experience, what are your recommendations; by brand name and part numbers, for modern RN and RFA vessels? cheers Mike
  12. Hey, I am a new guy in modelling and I´m asking myself for a long time some questions. 1. I am searching for a shop selling Xtracolor paints, I checked Hannants, Aviation Mega Store, Martola and Falsh-aviation. 2. Is there any way to get BA Blue X322, KLM Light Blue X302, Korean AIr Blue X308, Airbus Industrie Grey X359, MICA 1 X368, Virigin Atlantic Grey X367, Boeing Grey X301 and Corrogard X331? 3. When there aren´t a way, please let me know If there are any alternatives. - Greetings from Germany L.B.

  15. Finished today the nice Airfix Seafire F.XVII, completely OOB. I decided to build this to try the Agama Alcohol based paints - specifically the EDSG, DSG and Interiour Grey-Green. These paints behave nicely when thinned with IPA or Mr Levelling thinner, close to Gunze to spray, and has the advantage that Agama do colours that gunze dont :-). Unfortunately at the moment you can only buy them direct from Agama but hopefully that will change. The paints: And the finished Peter
  16. I finally want to try Mr Surfacer, often recommended by many people as a great product. I tried Hiroboy first, but they are out of stock. Yesterday I called into the Plymouth branch of Antics, and the first assistant I spoke to hadn't even heard of Gunze Sangyo or the "Mr" range of paint products... I go there very occasionally for a browse but I have to say they are usually very disappointing, and their prices aren't much cop either... Can anyone recommend a source for Mr Surfacer? Is the Tamiya aerosol similar product as good, or at least worth trying? Thanks, Tony
  17. For those of you who have been following my topic on Douglas Bader's Spitfire, you will already know that I recently bought the Airfix 1/48 model. Having now satisfied myself that more research is complete for the project begin, I suddenly realised that I had absolutely no idea of what to do with the paints included. I know that they are acrylic, also the box says? However, how do you use them in the airbrush? Should they be diluted with a reducer. If so, what reducer? I normally use Tamiya paints and thinners. When I bought the model and went over to the pain stand to grab a few bottles of T
