  1. Hi, 1/24th scale is a fairly common car scale so you might want to try eBay. I have frequently picked up miscellaneous car model parts (including engines) there very cheaply. PF
  2. Hi, Thanks for sharing your story. I am a naval architect by training, and enjoy ship models as a hobby. But sometimes it does give me pause when building a model to realize that on all the models of ships that I have built (or am in the process of building) people are risking their lives and/or some have actually lost their lives. Although I have never been in the situation that you have I think I can understand your thoughts and desires for your build to be in the memory of those who lost their lives. Best wishes on your build. PF
  3. Hi, The whole Type 31 concept has really grown on me. Although there size will obviously make them less capable than a vessel like the Type 26, as you note they seem to be well suited to a lot of basic roles that a navy vessel may need to do in peacetime as well as being able to support blockades, embargos, and a lot of other low naval-intensity conflict duties, while still retaining the ability to do some useful roles in a higher intensity full scale war setting too. PF
  4. Hi, I'm looking forward to seeing more of these builds. The Counties were/are such fascinating looking vessels. PF
  5. Hi, I picked up a kit of HMS Montrose not long ago, and have been following your build to get inspiration and to pick up tips. As everyone else above has noted your build looks exceptional. Can't wait to see it completed, and I can only hope my build comes out a fraction as nice looking as yours. 😋 PF
  6. Hi, Thanks for the heads up on this news & the link. PF
  7. Hi, I'm glad you reposted it. It is a great looking build. PF
  8. Hi, I think I kind of agree with Bootneck, if I can more or less understand what they are saying (rather than being totally in a language that I can not read) I'm happy. 😀 PF
  9. Hi, Can't wait to see more 😀 Pat
  10. Hi, Here are a couple images of the two IBG kits that I bought. In general the cover art work is really nice, the instructions seem to be fairly clear, with a lot of 3D rendered images of the assembly, and the paint instructions look to be reasonably clear. However, at 1/700 scale the overall model is very small (with the hull being a little less than 5 inches in length (~121mm) and the beam being only about 1/2 an inch (~12.5mm). ORP Kujawiak ORP Krakowiak Instructions Sheet 1 Instructions Sheet 2&3 Instructions Shee 4&5 Instructions Sheet 6 Parts (sorry for the glare) Pat PS. Sorry for the links, I think that since I am a new member it didn't appear as if I have the ability to post images yet 😋
  11. Hi, I bought two of the Hunt Class models from IBG a short while ago (but haven't started them yet) and I agree that they appear to be very nice kits. Pat
  12. Hi, Your build looks great. I love these larger models of smaller vessels
  13. Hi, While surfing eBay last week I stumbled across someone selling a batch of miscellaneous unboxed ship models fairly cheaply, which included a couple that I had hoped to eventually pick up someday. So I put in a bid and ended up winning the lot. The package arrived earlier this week and included not only a complete bagged kit for the Heller Roc Amadour (fishing vessel) and a bagged Lindberg Coast Guard Tug, but also bunch of unbagged sprues for several kits including an old Lindberg American Presidents Line Passenger vessel, an old Lindberg Coast Guard Patrol Boat and six Airfix RMS Mauretania models. I haven't fully checked to see if all the parts for the unbagged kits are there, but even if they are not I am sure I can either scratchbuild something to replace the missing parts and/or use the parts that are present as a basis for something else. The big issue though, is that I'm not really sure what to do with the six RMS Mauretania hulls. I have read on Wikipedia that over her life she appeared in a variety of different paint schemes including: a black hull and white upperworks a dark gray hull with black funnels (during WWI) two different dazzle paint schemes (during WWI) as a Hospital Ship, with a White Hull & Upperworks with Buff Funnels and Red Crosses and a Green Band (during WWI) a drab Gray (immediately after WWI) a white hull and upperworks (in the 1930s) I guess I almost have enough kits to do one in each paint scheme, but that would seem like an awful lot of very similar builds. As such, I may look into trying to kitbash some of the hulls into something else, but I'm not sure what yet. One thought is maybe doing a what-if early aircraft carrier kind of along the lines of HMS Argus, and another thought would be to use the hull as the basis for a generic WWI era passenger or passenger/cargo vessel. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions? Thanks Pat
  14. Hi, I'll be interested in seeing your HMS Middleton build. I recently bought an ORP Krakorwiak and ORP Kujawiak kit from the same company with the hopes of maybe trying to back fit one into looking like a reasonable facsimile of a Batch I Hunt for comparative purposes. But I haven't started anything yet. 🙄 Pat
  15. Wow, that turned out really nice 😀
  16. Hi, Can't help with your search, but I have a similar kit (its actually a Japanese version of the LCAC) so I am looking forward to your build. 😀 Pat
  17. Hi, I think your build looks great, especially the modifications that you did. 😀 Pat PS. I have to admit though I do feel a bit down every time I hear someone disparage an older model kit. I always thought that eventhough the Devonshire kit isn't perfect, for its day it really wasn't too bad overall, and I know I had fun building it when I was much younger.
  18. Hi, This is a fascinating thread. Thanks for sharing your build. I can't wait to see more (and I wish I had the money to build this kit myself :P ) Pat
