Phil Reeder Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Over on Steelnavy, someone has posted that the next 350th Airfix warship kit will be HMS Dreadnought, the 1906 Battleship.Has anybody else heard this?If true then..... regards Phil
mahross Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 If truen I may be tempted to do something martime Ross
Iain Ogilvie Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 (edited) Well - if true I think it would be great news. Airfix could carve a real niche for historic Royal Navy subjects in 1:350 - seemingly neglected by other manufacturers in favour of US, German and Japanese vessels... I'm still dreaming of 1:350 Iron Dukes, 1916 Tigers and - ooh - a 50s Eagle, or Victorious, and a 70s Ark Royal... Come on Airfix - you know it makes sense! Iain Edited October 24, 2009 by 32SIG
ferny Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 A type 42 destroyer would be nice go with the rusty bus .
John Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 There's been a campaign for this on the ATF for years. John
Matt Roberts Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Historically Dreadnought should have been a plastic model for years, probably the most significant ship of the early 20th Century...in influence, if not battle honors.
Dave Fleming Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Mmm, I suspected it might be a Daring class (T45)
Obi-Jiff Kenobi Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Whatever it is, I'll have one. Now to start a campaign for a 1/350 HMS Glamorgan, County class GMD... Obi-Jiff
Geoff_B Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I rather doubt thay have any plans to do any more ships until the Illustrious kit is issues and they can gauge sales and the reviews/reactions to the kit. Then they will decide if they are to carry on producing kits in that scale and what typres they want to produce. (I suspect interest will be in either current RN ships to accompany Lusty or possibly WW2 RN to counter the current range of German vessels scheduled to appear from the likes of Trumpeter & Academy) G
Obi-Jiff Kenobi Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Still, it's a nice rumour. Who'd have thought, even two years ago, that anybody would have believed even for a second that Airfix were thinking of kitting a 1/350 ship? Obi-Jiff
Selina Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 I hope the soon to be released a/c carrier in 1/350 scale will be the turning point for Airfix. They have missed a marketing scoop on not converting some of their range of 1/600 kits into 1/350 scale. I'm sure there is a market in the UK for 1/350 scale RN warships. Trumpeter are rumoured to do a 1/350 scale Nelson class ship next year! At the moment only the resin makers are doing ships in 1/350 scale and they are considerably expensive. Trumpeter and Academy are steadily knocking out new 1/350 scale ships such as the Graf Spee and Eugen so why not do some British ships like a nice Queen Elizabeth class, or an Iron Duke amongst a ton of ships that could be built.
Obi-Jiff Kenobi Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 I think a Type 42 would make a great companion to the new Illustrious. Of course, what I'd like to see most in 1/350 would be Ark Royal - either WWII or post-war versions. Having said that, any new Royal Navy ship in 1/350 would be extremely welcome, from any manufacturer. Obi-Jiff
David J Ross Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Airfix had a Trafalgar class submarine on their stand at Telford. Tucked in between three Illustrious models. After being caught out by the 1/48th Vulcan, last year, I checked and was told that this should be out early next year.
Phil Reeder Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 Now that`s a turn up for the book,I didn`t think they would do a SSN!! Regards Phil

moaning dolphin Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Had a chat with the kindly gent at airfix, he said they were going to see how the Illustrious goes, it did look good however because he said out of an initial 4000 they have sold 3500 before release. But he didn't give anything away on other future releases, he said everyone had suggested something different, so just to be sure I put a bid in for a '70's Ark Royal, heres hoping......off to pre order the Illustrious now, due January alledgedly and did look goooooooood!

Throw in the Vanguard from Bronco and 1/350th RN subjects are spinging up all over!! WE are sure it's a Trafalgar? - Maybe Airfix are doing a Dreadnought SSN!!!!

I know, I forgot to put the smiley on! IIRC the Dragon 1/700th kit didn't have the propulsor, which would have made it Swiftsure IIRC. But it's almost 20 years since I built that
