Hiya chaps. Does anyone know if any kits exist in either 72nd or 48th of these? I know that revell did a typhoon with has and ground equipment but they are like the proverbial rocking horse poo.

Failing that, any pointers to drawings, plans that I could use to scratch build?

Cheers

I've been after similar my self, Verdelinden (think I spelt that right) did an RAF German one in 1/72 but it's long OOP I think! I remember distinctly having a kit of a RAF HAS as a kid in the late 80s early 90s, could have been a revell one!

If you get anywhere with plans please share!!

Yes, revell did issue an HAS back in the early '90s and this was also reissued later with an aircraft, the Tornado first and then the Typhoon. I vaguely remember it being issued with a Mirage III as well but I might be wrong with this one.

It was not bad, but from memory it looked a bit small, an F-104 could fit inside but a Tornado would have struggled.

I also vaguely remember having some drawings in electronic format, but can't remember where !

Modakit released a 1/72 scale kit of a RAFG Mk 1 HAS a few years back.

I've been keeping an eye out for one on EvilBay but with no luck

BigSky models did a 1:72 RAF Germany HAS back in the late 80's. Was pretty much DIY using the plans, Plastic Card and Polystyrene laminate board supplied.

Has been discussed in a thread here (2008)

I had one, but sadly never finished it as it was damaged in a move.

I still have their Saudi Sun Shelter from 1991 though.

I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but Airmodel has a German WW2 shelter: http://www.airmodel.de/index.php?cat=c28_1...rama-bases.html

I thought it also had a contemporary, but I am probably wrong.

(they also have some field equipment: http://www.airmodel.de/index.php?cat=c32_1...cessories.html)

That's because, although plugged as being 1/72 it is in fact continental HO scale. Just a selection of pertinant links from Google...

Very interesting, I had no idea something like this existed! I just spent 1 1/2 hours trying to align the scans as best as possible:

Two things are now lacking: I don't know the exact size (roughly A3) and how do you put it together? Do you possible still have the instructions?

Rob, I can't find the instructions - I have them somewhere but after 13 house moves in 25 years...

Basically, the top sheet was supposed to be cut from thick sheet - I think originally expanded polystyrene or the sort of platic foam in 2 sheets of polystyrene that art shops sell. I used foam tiles, glued between plastikard, if my memory serves me. The lining inside was corrugated steel - hence the comment on "planking".

The bottom sheet was to be cut from 20 to 30 thou card, but things like doors (17-20) required several layers, plus detailing with bolt heads etc. I terms of the other bits, 41-56 were the ventilation ducts running at floor level inside each side from the rear, 20-21 the rear doors - I think, 57-62 was supposed to be the winch on the rear wall, and I have no idea about 29-40.

My HAS (with a Harrier having an engine change) was built in the mid-1980s, and was well received at Farnborough IPMS, but fell of a bookcase in 2004. It is in a couple of boxes in the garage. One of these years I may do a rebuild.

They were bloody awful things to work in - especially if you had 3 Harriers in each.

Regards

Tim

Hello Tim,

Many thanks for responding. I had no way of asking whether I could repost your drawings, since your old account was no longer active. I hope you didn't mind!

Many thanks for the identification of most of the parts, it's a big help. To scale the drawings correctly, could possibly measure the red and green dimensions on your originals?

I know the 5mm foam board, I've used it at work to make templates. I would expect it to work well in this application. If all the parts could be cut on a plotter, you would have a real kit to assemble. Maybe the corrugated steel planking can be found in the Evergreen range? That would save a lot of work, but I think it would also be quite costly. An alternative would be to glue numerous strip of plastic card - very laborious.

If I would have had too much time, I would have drawn all the parts in CAD and assembled them in 3D to see how they fit!

I've long had plans to do a 15 or 16 sqn Buccaneer inside a shelter, and that plan has become a lot more realistic now. Many thanks!!

Hello Tim,

I'm 'bumping' this thread in the hope that you spot it! I would still dearly like to know the dimensions of the shelter plans.. Pretty please?

That card model looks great, and it's also quite cheap. Wonder how my Su-15 wold look like n one of those shelters...

Having purchased the GPM's Warsaw Pact HAS card kit and already started it, I confirm that it's a rather funny work. But that's also quite big!

Love this site - am looking at designing an HAS to run off on the laser cutter and 3D printer and my search brought me right back to Britmodeller and this thread.

Hi folks, just checking if this itch is still there as I’ve worked up & laser cut two RAF HAS shelter designs in 1/72

Any of you still wanting one? If so let me know and I’ll run some off

Send a couple of notes to "Noy's Miniatures" to print a couple of them.  They just printed an Israeli HAS in 1/72nd, I believe. Their quality is quite good; it is on paper/card; but, look very real.

Just had a look - their Israeli one looks good. Hopefully my home-made ones will get even halfway close
