Noel Smith
Lovely Mk1 Escort. The twin cam engine with the webers reminds me of my old Mk2 Lotus Cortina that I had back in the 70's. The Mk2 has not got much appeal but a Mk1 Lotus Cortina would be interesting.

Came very close in the early 80's to buying one in a lovely duck egg blue colour I hadn't seen before (or since!) Then I got an insurance quote - over twice what I was paying on a stage rally prepared Escort with a more powerful engine!! Keith
Noel Smith
Keith, I was very happy with my MK2 Lotus Cortina. It was a bit unusual as the first owner had an additional fuel tank fitted in the boot. My car was coloured Silver Fox overall. The reg no was ORX 44 F. I tried the Lotus Cortina register to see if the car was still about but they could not identify through a reg no and asked if I knew the chassis number. Still don't know if the car still exists or is long gone. The reason I mentioned about the MK1 is that I simply think it would be more desirable as a model kit than a Mk2.

Noel Smith
Regarding the Mk 1, a guy in South Africa made a resin kit in 1/24th scale some years back. Ian Knott from the Motor Museum In Miniature who have done many of the shows in the UK built one and displayed it doing the rounds. Ian and his dad Rod, were inspired to actually produce their own Mk 1 resin kit in 1/24th scale, and they also make a Morris Minor Saloon kit too. It may be only a little time before Belkits might have a go at a Mk1 Lotus Cortina. They have done rally versions of the Mk1 Escort so who knows? Just recently I have restored an old Airfix Lotus Cortina that was badly customised by me way back when the kits were easy to get hold of, and my modelling skills were shall we say 'a bit lacking'!

Bit rough but usable I think. Sorry Christian for the thread drift! Keith
capri-schorsch
No need to worry about hijacking this tread! An MK2 is also a great looking car in my eyes. In addition to other projects, I've been working on the escort lately. In addition to the racing version, a rally version has now also been created. The rally parts are still only available in CAD, but I will soon be able to show the real vehicle. Greeting Christian
keefr22
That looks great Christian - my only comment would be very few rally Mk1's had a front spoiler fitted 'back in the day' Keith
capri-schorsch
Thanks for your reply. Yes the rallye version was running without a spoiler. My plans did not include an rallye escort until a guy ask about it. He wanted that minilite style rims and i included some street tires for him.Next step was the higher suspension and than some front and rear bumpers too. Thats all. Did not want to make a second body shell for it.I think every modeller who is willing to build a resin printed model has the skills to use a sanding stick and some putty to sand the spoiler in the right shape. It was only a customer question about rims. The spoiler i put on the Mk1 are from an Escort Mk2 version. "Dont say that to anyone, please" 😇 regards Christian

capri-schorsch
Hello, a long time has passed but I finally finished the two prototypes. Racing version of the Escort MK1 and the Rally version of the Escort all parts are 3d printed and of course vac-formed windows are included. Everything can also be ordered on my website if you want. Thanks very much!
Sabrejet
Absolutely lovely. Great work and the kind of kit that gets you reaching for the wallet even if you were not previously interested in this car. Or thought you weren't....
keefr22
Those really are beautiful Christian, the rally car so reminds me of a couple of real ones I once owned! Unfortunately money is tight at the moment, maybe if I can sell some models on e-bay..... Keith

Keith Same here Keith, would need to clear some stash funds first, especially if I want to avoid an entanglement with the Domestic Authorities 😉 They do look lovely and would be a great addition to anyone's display, the Mk2 sounds very interesting too. Great, no, amazing work. Chris
