I got the wings on last night and tidied up those joins with some Perfect Plastic Putty, then this morning I made a start on some of the smaller details. I scratched a couple of FOD guards for the intakes, hollowed out the opening on the ducts around the exhaust and added a section of clear sprue to the IR sensor under the nose, which should look better once painted up. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr

trickyrich
that is some tidy work, the surface prep looks great, you won't able to tell she wsa an old Airfix beast when done.
nimrod54
I decided to take a break from the Lanc. today, and got back on with this build. I've added another couple of details that I felt would survive the painting stage, with careful handling. The canopy was fixed in place temporarily and masked off, then the model was primed. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr
MarkSH
That's looking excellent, what a great shape the Draken is! Something straight out of science fiction.

Thanks very much Mark. I agree with you Re sci-fi, the Draken does look as though it could have come out of Gerry Anderson's studio. Great looking aircraft. On the down side though, guess which numpty has just realised that he has forgotten to mask up the clear sections he added for the wing nav lights. So I will have to carefully sand/polish where I think that they are, mask, and then prime those areas again.

Cheers Rich. I'm still getting used to rescribing panel lines, the plastic on this kit is quite soft and I feel that there are a couple of areas that are a bit heavy. Not quite up to Matchbox standard though.
nimrod54
I made a start on the painting yesterday, applying some Tamiya Silver Leaf along the lower fuselage section, and then the first of the top colours on this morning, I decided to go with a Polly Scale paint and, in an attempt to achieve the brown tinge to the olive green that everyone seems to be striving for, selected a Luftwaffe colour RLM81 Braunviolet. I am not sure if it is too much on the brown side, so the jury is still out on that choice. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr

nimrod54
I applied a first coat of the blue camouflage colour this morning using Xtracolor X264 RAL5008 Graublau which I feel is a reasonable match. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr

nimrod54
I have been working on the undercarriage legs, painting those and the main wheel bays aluminium. I'll get some dark green on those over the next few days and sort out the bay doors. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr I also came across this weapons set in my stash which had some AIM-4D's and -4G's that should be suitable replacements for the kit parts. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr
