Tamiya 1:48th scale nakajima gekko
85sqn replied to Des byrne's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
How are you getting on with the gekko, anymore progress? -
Thats really nice, I did the mkI recently and used a load of filler! I don't know what your instructions were like but mine were a bit ambiguous and used the wrong type of rockets.

Airfix (ex-Otaki) 1/48 Scale Hellcat Mk I

Lovely job, makes a massive difference with the resin engine over the kit one but I do like these Otaki/Arii kits! -
Airfix 1/48 Sea Hurricane, 880 Sqn, Op Ironclad

I think he probably is on the small side. The hurri came as part of the Ready for Battle gift set and the standing pilots supplied with that are alot larger. I must say the pilots that come with kits do seem like a bit of an afterthought, I had to break this chaps legs to get him in there and get his feet on the rudder pedals! -

Airfix 1/48 Sea Hurricane, 880 Sqn, Op Ironclad

Hi WildeSau75, the colours were Xtracrylix: Extra Dark Sea Grey, Dark Slate Grey and Sky, Tamiya: Yellow, red, Black etc. I also used Ammo's new British interior green which sprays quite nicely. I know what you mean with the spars and cockpit parts that build up around it. -
It's over in the rumourmonger too but it would be useful if they released something different from Airfix in the form of a Target Tug or an ASR.

Thankyou for the comments! I know what you mean.I don't think I'm going to be able to build much more for a while as I've filled up my display cabinet. It was my consolation from my wife as we got a cat this year but I've filled it up and anything I place on the shelves would be at the marauding cats mercy! Hoping to buy a house this year where I can get some sort of man cave! All the parts are in there which is great thinking from Airfix, it just lacks a headrest and the oil ring behind the spinner. -

Hi folks, here are a few kits I hadn't got round to posting; Hobbyboss Sherman with 76mm, Tamiya carrier and Airfix MWD. The Sherman I completed last year and I owe a thanks to Sgt. Squarehead for help with British Shermans. The decals for the Sherman and the Universal Carrier were from Toro, which is a Polish company hence the choice of markings on both vehicles. The Bedford I have just finished and due to my local model shop selling alot of 'Ammo' products I gave them a go and used their SCC2 for the main brown and a lightened version for the canvas plus their washes and matt varnish. The carrier could do with some aerials at some point. Cheers for looking Nick

Hi folks, here is Special Hobby's 1/48 Fairey Firefly in the markings of 1771 Sqn onboard HMS Implacable in 1945. The kit was finished with Xtracrylix and also I used Alclad for the first time as an underlayer for chipping. I found the kit quite challenging in some places notably the fit of the rear canopy to the fuselage and a fair bit of filler was required here and there. Cheers Nick

Hi folks, Here is a sea hurricane made from Airfix's recent 1/48 hurricane. It is finished in the markings of 'Dicky Cork' of 880 Sqn onboard HMS Indomitable around the time of the invasion of Madagascar (5-7 May 1942). The kit was finished with Xtracrylix, Vallejo products and decals from the spares box. I really enjoyed this build and it went together really well. It will be interesting to see what markings Airfix release the sea hurricane with when they get round to it. Cheers Nick

I've built one of these and it is nice but without doubt a resin engine really improves the kit offering!

RAF Tornado's Over Syria. NO POLITICS AT ALL PLEASE
85sqn replied to Nigel Foster60's topic in Real Aviation
You wont see any 'nose art' anymore. The MOD banned it in 2007 so as not to offend. It has more to do with many females working alongside male colleagues on aircraft. -

Beautiful job, looks really good! -
I'm hoping someone will do a nice little TT conversion set and some underwing dinghys for an ASR version.

Great scooter! I must get one of these in this scheme to go with my aggressors.

Go on Ebay and type 'Coastal kits Carrier deck'. You will be presented with multiples including British decks. I got one a few months ago which looks like this: http://s776.photobucket.com/user/Typhoon_album/media/IMG_5602.jpg.html?sort=3&o=16 It's based on Indomitable maybe? Best regards Nick

Some nice photos there, one I particularly liked is this: http://www.raf-in-combat.com/wpsite/wp-content/uploads/edd/2015/07/tn_Defiant-12.jpg The Bedford OYD with all the pilots being transported to their aircraft, some wearing black pre-war flying suits, a chap with a pipe and the truck itself is surely an excuse for Airfix to come up with a set that complements the Albion refueller and the MWD.

Its N1572 as shown in Boulton Paul Defiant by Mark Ansell. It says a large number of defiants were subsequently to be used either as shown in the photo or in TT config. Just to add the vehicle behind shows interesting camo doesn't it?

I've picked up a £4.99 Vb with the same idea and when I matched up the lower wing to the fuselage I was surprised at the difference!

Really nice work, I built one of these last year and I found it very enjoyable. Caunter scheme looks great on the crusader. I think there is someone out there making early crusader conversion kits- maybe I saw it on Track48

The humber is a cool choice, would go with multiple RAF dioramas among other things.
