NFR replied to Hubert's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Great looking build! The SAAF delivery scheme was definitely eye catching. Nice edition of the larger fuel tanks -

Great build! Couldn't ask for a better result! Love the addition of the gun camera stills! This is the one at the Ysterplaat museum if I remember correctly? -

1:32 Dassault Mirage IIICZ (SAAF) - For Dad
NFR replied to Erabe's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks for the tips, worked a treat on the F1 CZ I ended up building instead. He was stationed at Langebaanweg for about 20 years, Then moved to Ysterplaat. Reggie Roos was his name. Italeri do a 1/48 Impala and there is a superbly built scratch built SAAF one, in 1/32, on imodeler! Also, Scaleworx is releasing a 1/32 F1 CZ if you're still looking for that stablemate. -
How did you go with this build? I've just started 2 Recce Mirage builds. Could you please elaborate with regards to the cockpit position on a RZ and CZ being different? I can definitely see the differences in the tail (you learn something new every day!) The Mirage at Ysterplaat is also a R2Z not RZ. The main differences being that they had Mirage F1 Engine, Sub Systems, Updated Matin Baker (Mk10 if i remember correctly) and have enlarged intakes for the ATAR 09-K50 (You can see this in the picture posted by Blimpyboy. The Mirage closest to the camera is the R2Z). With a few changes in antenna were made as they were updated too.

Awesome plane in an awesome livery. I just completed F1 CZ 213, Rankins first victory, in the same scheme. Just remember 203 was in the low visibility scheme when it achieved the MiG kill so the camo wouldn't have had the Angolan Roundel under the canopy. I do find it interesting that the Cubans claimed the aircraft returned to base, when the explosion, in the gun camera pictures, was about three times larger than the MiG.

Amazing conversion! I have the same kit with the ScaleWorx conversion kit at home but my skills aren't quite good enough to do it just justice like you have. Phenomenal job! Did you scratch build the air brakes? Or was that included in the Eduard F1B exterior kit?

Jordan J199 1/20 Modeler's multimedia
NFR replied to modelbautony's topic in Ready For Inspection - Vehicles
Great result on an awsome car. I remember seeing Damon Hill take Jordans first victory at Spa in the 198. Great inspiration for the Revell Jordan 197 in my stash -
There seems to be. The owner is an ex oil entrepreneur that sold his company (funny enough, same profession as Mike Beachy Head, the ex Thunder City owner) At least steps are being taken in the right direction with the engine runs. I'm guessing tracking a Lightning would be quite the task haha I'm not sure if it's the same company or not I have read accounts from both sides. One side saying the jets were poorly maintained and another saying they were wanting to close Thunder City because of noise, The Lightnings went supersonic over the City once or twice, and low level flying. When the crash happened it was the perfect storm. I read that around 26 Lightnings were lost due to engine fires during operational service. So it was a well known issue They flew again in 2014. The test flight was conducted by Mike Beachy Head himself, I don't think he would have jumped back in the seat if he wasn't satisfied with the condition of the aircraft. Anyway, I'll be flying to Cape Town on monday and will be sure to pop in and grab some photos and info.
