  1. Thanks I didn't know that ! Could you just re-scribe or are there shape issues as well?
  2. Ozmods do a resin replacement "to correct the CA Hudson incorrect tail". I've had a look at all the kit reviews I can Google and can't find any reviewer saying they found an issue with the tail. The Ozmods product replaces the whole tail, fins, tailplanes and all. Anyone know what the problem is? I particularly ask because I had a look at their bomb bay and I thought that it would not be that difficult to scratch build what they were offering in resin. Last off - anyone know of any good references to the Hudson at all? i was going to try for the warpaint issue on it for starters JohnT
  3. E-bay has become a funny place in some ways. I was after a 1/48 Classic Airframes Lockheed Hudson for ages but would not bid over £50 which I thought was far too much anyway. Amost gave up on bidding altogether when a week ago bagged one at 50 quid. Quite chuffed especially when my search on e-bay shows one sold at £118 in the US this week. I think the solution is to set a maximum price on what you will pay, stick to it and one day you will get lucky JohnT
  4. Being a non technical kind of chap I wondered how when the technology for weapons release works already on other aircraft does it take soooooooooo long to qualify Typhoon for air to ground weaponry? I understand they want to check airflow, stores release and stuff like that but how long have they been working on Typhoon so far now????? Not being political - just I don't understand the time frame and possibly there are very good reasons beyond my ken?
  5. Alex I've a profile of it and a pile of other stuff collated from magazines over the decades for a wee project on 111 Sqn. Send me a pm and I can see what you'd like and I can see what I can do to get stuff to you JohnT
  6. Hmnnnnn...... now I am confused - ok, thats not difficult so its not sporting. Not being a Tonka afficianado I need directed by those who know these things to be pointed in the right direction so - as far as I understand it:- The Italeri version was OOP and much sought after though needed lots of Neils stuff from Paragon thrown at it to make it ok. People threw money at it on E Bay to get one then Hobbyboss said they were doing one and it was eagerly anticipated only for it to be slated as very disappointing when it arrived on shape issues So Italeri was back as flavour of the month - or is it? Which then is the better starting point or are both ok/have issues/poor/a pile of ? Please delete as applicable and Answers on a postcard yours Confused of Edinburgh
  7. Dunno - manage to get that wrecked most weekends myself seriously though thats fantastic work - not so much a model but more a work of art I'd say very well done that man
  8. I was just passing the radio and heard the BEEB report (for what thats worth) that the Typhoon was not going to be sorted for air to ground until 2018 I thought "WHAT? Harrier - gone Tornado - going very soon what exactly is proposed for air cover for the troops on the ground?" Having said that it has also been said by the powers that be that we won't be on the ground in Afganistan by 2014 (I think that was the date given by our present masters) and presumably anywhere else other than Aldershot (We do still have bases in the Uk like Aldershot don't we or are they all closed too now?) Clearly all will be well in the world for the next decade then and we can all start booking exotic holidays to present world trouble spots for 2015 as everything will be sweetness and light by then. Holiday in Kabul or the Horn of Africa anyone?
  9. The Kit one Iain I have not looked at your master and to be very honest I would not be qualified to comment given my skill level !!!!!! It was the kit one. Even to my untutored eye it just looked "all wrong" and while I usually miss errors elsewhere until my betters point them out even I could see that the kit one's appearance spoiled the look of the model Actually I am very surprised that someone like Squadron or falcon etc have not done a replacement ???? Wholly agree about the canopy needing to be right on the Lightning even more than other aircrfat perhaps
  10. Hope the flu goes soon Iain. Its a real energy drainer when you get the real deal. And thoroughly enjoying the thread with much anticpation as to the end product !!!! Meantime can I ask about the canopy and your thoughts? When I look at it and photos it looks to me that the "bump" is in the wrong place. Am I seeing things or having a senior moment? I assume that if a correction was needed the only way would be a vac replacement regards John
  11. Sorry if seen before but it looks like CMR resin are producing several versions of the Scimitar in 1/72 inc an early production machine and a photo recce one along with a Granby Bucc and another version and 2 Vampires as well seen on http://www.cybermodeler.com/news/cmr.shtml
  12. Thats fantastic lovely work made me think too - wonder what all those Spit bits getting junked in the original pic would be worth now? Might even be able to buy 2 tamiya Mk 9s with the money !!
  13. I knew I should send you my spare set so I could let you find out all the problems before fitting mine ! You are doing a great job - keep up the good work

    Hawk 200

Interesting thoughts but aren't we supposed to be out of there within a year or so? If thats the plan then not much point in buying kit that we won't use because we never order stuff, pay for it and then find we have to scrap it do we? ok and time
  15. Being a total ship ignoramous but having a family interest in HMS Malaya Jutland 1916 can anyone advise is is possible to do HMS Queen Elizabeth 1941 to HMS Malaya 1916? or is that a conversion too far? and can HMS Barham 1916 be done? thanks in advance as always
  16. what I thought after looking at the video properly rather than at the snatched tv clip out of corner of eye probably not even same aircraft knowing the BEEB !
  17. I was watching the Scottish BEEB at breakfast time this am and they showed some poor footage from a phone cam of the tornado sometime before it coming down. The comment was that it appeared that both engines were on fire and the gear was down. From the very brief footage and from what I snatched a very quick look it appeared that there were white areas around the intakes - but if the gear was down could I have mistaken that for landing lights due to poor footage, just turning head to see telly some distance away and the nanosecond glimpse I had? I'd have guessed that any fire wouldn't have shown in the intakes. Aircraft was flying towards camera and then overhead by the way EDIT just found this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-12304912
  18. Rob thats fantastic and very very much appreciated wouldn't mind a copy of the print myself and I am sure others on here would too - do you have any info as to who will be selling them? A big thank you to Mrs Rob too and please pass on a thanks to Allan twice once for the info and a bigger one for doing it all those years ago would love to see any pics he can unearth ! thanks again JohnT
  19. I understand thats true but can't help but wonder how much of the budget goes on desks in the MOD rather than kit! Not to mention the amount of kit that is contracted for yet does not seem to get to where its needed. The wastage seems phenomenal and to that extent MOD has been the author of its own misfortune. The other point which is all too often missed is that UK plc has a major financial problem with the deficit. Thats what we spend and are due to spend less what we are earning and what we shall earn. Upshot is we could afford to buy Nimrod et all but not to use/ maintain etc in future. Looked at another way its not the price of building a new school/ hospital whatever thats the killer - its the staffing and all the other running costs in years 2, 3, 4 etc that we can't pay for. Must admit though I can't quite see why mothballing a la US Boneyard could not have been an option. - Unless we are really that broke after all !
  20. Wholly bemused at Press reports yesterday and today that "former senior brass" are writing to say that this leaves a huge gap in our defences/security Their point is exactly? We all know that but why make it after the airframes are trashed? Their sense of timing is in the rather estblished military tradition of too little and too late Facts are sadly that we ain't got the money and what we have is tied up in an unbreakable contract for carriers and in MOD massive over runs and budget farces. We all know them so I won't be boring and list them. I won't live that long anyway. Without getting political I would suggest a Royal Commission or Public Enquiry should be held into the ludicrous way we as a country buy our defence kit and once and for all we change things and start to get it right and buy the right stuff, at the right price, delivered ready to work on day one and on time just as any other business or home would do and stop repeating the TSR2 fiasco and a 1001 others the same - or is that too much to ask? feel better now - thanks chaps JohnT
  21. I thought that a few days ago anyone care to draft an inventory? here is a start How many Typhoons? Hercules? Tornados - going on till when? Hawks? Helicopters? other types and lest not forget the B of B memorial aircraft as they might still be needed ! JohnT
  22. Actually a custodial sentence is certainly a possibility. Passangers have been given 3 months for disturbances on aircraft. I recall one case of an Edinburgh woman getting that for being drunk and causing a scene and divert on a UK bound flight - Manchester magistrates Court I seem to recall
  23. Oh thats a toughie how to pick? Most aircraft that did firsts (thinking Wright Flyer, Bleriot monoplane, Vickery Vimy, Bell X1, Concorde et all) could be in there but I gues that eventually their achievements would be equalled by another aircraft. So I suppose its impact and something almost iconic and perhaps even spiritual that makes an aircraft truly and historically "great" So my choice in equal measures would be Wright Flyer Vimy - rememebr the fuss when she got over the Altlantic? (Spirit of St Louis gets an hon mention there too for same reason) Spitfire - not just an icon to the UK but to the whole free world and "Concorde" who gets an honourable place just because she was so damn beautiful and shows what mankind can do when we aspire to achieve so much more as a species. Bloody sad that we don't seem to anymore
  24. Have to agree that Revell are really producing great value for money these days. Wonder what they will price the 1/32 HE111 at?
  25. I guess you know that Falcon do a set of vac canopies that includes a replacement screen for the Flycatcher? Available in stock at Hannants and probably elsewhere too I imagine also there are Model Alliance decal sheets on aftermarket again available through Hannants and others
