  1. Absolute beauty! Love the paint job. Super smooth and a great colour too.
  2. Welcome to Britmodeller Olly! For first attempts they are outstanding so I can only imagine the quality when you have a few more under your belt! lovely livery on those birds too! Dave is right about the Authentic Airliner decals. They look fantastic and I’d use them on all my model aircraft if I could afford to as they give the models that extra look of realism without being cartoonish. Look forward to seeing more!
  3. Fantastic job on this Bismarck! I’m more into civilian vessels but this ship and a few other military vessels always stood out to me. Indeed I have this in my stash. Very crisp moulding and lots of details for it’s size. The deck looks fantastic too. Can you tell me which deck colour and MIG product you used for painting and weathering the deck? Looks great!
  4. Great job Alex! These do build up into nice little models with some work. I’m currently building the 747 and this kit in the AA livery. Both original Matchbox boxings. I got both boxings in fair to good condition for less than a tenner including postage but I’ve seen them go for silly sums too. Between £40 and £60 for the 747. Bonkers! But they come up regularly on fleabay cheap so always worth keeping an eye open.
  5. Well this kit is proving not to be the quick and fun build I was hoping for. Although I’m putting this on a stand like the 747 I wanted to add the undercarriage for a little variation. Literally the one part with flash are the wheels. I doubt I could remove it and keep them round. Far too small. Also, the wheel bay doors, although free from flash, are softly and poorly moulded. Wouldn’t be too hard to fashion some out of plasticard but I’ve decided to build it ‘in flight’. There are also a few sink marks and other unsightly issues with this particular kit. What looked like a crisp moulding at first glance turned out to be anything but once the first primer coat went on. So it’s been covered in various fillers and primed a couple of times so far. Still a few minor imperfections which I’ll touch up over the weekend and then I can get on with the painting. Things should move pretty fast with this and the 747 after that. Sounds like a downer post but there is nothing seriously off with the kit. Just a little patience needed with sanding sticks and filler. Am losing some detail but at this scale it’s not an issue.
  6. Wasn’t sure what to expect when you mentioned the faded paint job but that looks superb!
  7. Looks great Pat! I have this in my stash and can’t wait to start on it. Bit worried about that decal but I’ll cross that bridge. Seems like a good kit for the most part and it looks fantastic when complete. This is no exception.
  8. Me neither. I used to have the die cast Matchbox aircraft as a kid and don’t remember ever seeing these. Although I’d probably given up playing with toy cars and planes by the time these had come out. Early 90’s I think? Didn’t realise the Revell Air Canada one I had done was a Matchbox Rebox but as soon as I found out (I think someone mentioned it on here) I was searching eBay for the 747 and then the others. They come up fairly regularly and can be had in excellent condition for under a tenner. Seen them being sold for £60 too. Not that rare!!!
  9. I know what you mean! The prices on a lot of modelling supplies on Amazon are getting silly. Even Prime stuff has a premium on it. Random stuff does still pop up at good prices but it’s getting rarer. I just ordered a load of supplies from Wonderland models. Might not need a lot of it for a while but the postage was more than reasonable enough for what I got. always good to support my LMS as well. Would much rather give them my money than some of the mickey takers out there. If I’m going to be honest chaps, I’ll try and get hold of this paint to try with the Tamiya ones I have. If I can’t get it for whatever reason and the Tamiya ones aren’t that close I’m not going to worry. They certainly look more metallic than the Revell aluminium (which I do like for certain applications) and the Vallejo model air metallic paints which have proven a disaster on a previous project. At this scale as long as it’s silver and shiny it’ll probably look fine. If it was a 1/144 model I’d be more discerning about the finish. It for a small, quick and fun build I’m happy for good enough.
  10. It’s a shame they dropped the polished aluminium finish and went with painting their fuselages. Understandable though given the use of different materials / composites in modern aircraft. I’ll keep an eye out for that paint when I take a trip to my LMS. I’m sure they have AK stuff in.
  11. Nice Stefan, looks lovely against that bright blue sky!
  12. Ah, remember that volcano story well. Vaguely remember the actual name, though I better remember newscasters trying their best to pronounce it correctly! My only worry about this build is the decals. I’m going to give them a coat of Microscale Decal Film and see how I get on. Worst case scenario is that the decals fall apart and I have to spray the plane white and pick up the Revell boxing for the Air Canada decals. I just picked up an Airfix QE2 and the decals still look useable even though they are 50 odd years old so I’m optimistic. Famous last words? We shall see!
  13. Nearing the final stages… Wings are done save for a slight touch up. Just need to spray the fuselage and the engines, gloss and apply the decals. Speaking of the engines… They are what lets this kit down. The fuselage halves don’t exactly line up well but the engine halves are something else. Fair amount of work to get them looking respectable but certainly do-able with plenty patience, some filler and sanding sticks. The stand is also pretty much done. I used boiling water and a tin of beans to help shape the acrylic rod. Think I’m going to cut it down a little and add a touch more curve to it so the Jumbo is tilting up towards the sky. Paint on the stand is Halfords BMW Midnight Blue II. Looks great in real life and dries in no time at all. I’m hoping to have this wrapped up by next weekend. My plan…. (Oh dear - cursed myself with that one I’m sure! 😳) Err, my plan is to have this and my 727 in the ‘paintshop at the same time. Don’t mind the painting, it’s the setup and cleaning the airbrush afterwards. Might as well do it as a batch. Anyways, feel free to completely ignore my talk of plans and dates. I know I do!
  14. Have been trying to pick up all four of the Matchbox Airliner kits recently. Have had the 747 for a while and that is in the final stages. I can now add the 727 to the list. Hopefully I can score the remaining two as they turn up on eBay pretty regularly. Sometimes at silly prices but frequently can be had for under a tenner with p&p. This kit (at first glance) seems to be better moulded than the 747. Much crisper with zero flash. I’ll find out soon when I start assembling. The decal sheet is also in better condition although the one for the 747 isn’t that bad to be fair. Going to plough through this build and have a big painting session of both this and the 747 in a few days. Going for the American Airlines livery. Always liked that stripe on the polished aluminium (?) body. Not sure what to use for that. I always use the Revell aluminium for most jobs but that won’t look right on this. Perhaps the Tamiya silver? I don’t really want to shell out on fancy metallic paints but I’m open to suggestions.
  15. Managed to pick up another one of the airline kits off eBay. Hoping to get the complete set but the bid snipers are beating me to it. Good news is plenty come up despite the supposed ‘rarity’. This is the PK-802 Boeing 727. Will be doing this in the American Airlines livery methinks. All complete. Nice, crisp moulding and the decal sheet looks in excellent shape.
