Yes I have seen it quoted in many articles for the MK7 in AS finish but looking in the bible, the book we spoke of,it stats RAF Blue Gray for these machines which was what I thought it would be ,till doubt was put in my mind a few years back by several books saying Oxford blue for the HAS7 with yellow tops !!! my old mind is buzzing.   3. The Hal Far TT18 were re coated with Dayglo Saturn yellow to show up better in the bright Med sunshine ,to prevent nasty accidents !!!!

  5. Hi Colin The Whirlwind HAS 7 were Oxford Blue on the lower half ,so as stated Westlands no doubt had stocks left over going out of date !!!! There has been an Oxford Blue HAS3 with the FAAM for sometime but it will be nice to see the HMS Gloucester gulf war Sea Skua Ace aircraft in there. I photographed at the 40th aniv last year restored with its full post war markings regards Len Newman.
  6. The Vixen like the Phantom FG1 had a secondary strike roll & could could carry 500lb bombs on the four inner wing hard points or two 1,000lb bombs on the outer wing hard points . It could also carry 2,000lb bombs on the outer hard points or one red beard nuclear bomb & one fuel tank. Pictures are rear & I cannot find the one I have of them being carried. Hope this is of use to you.

  8. They were added by Heller when they did their release & are now in the Airfix newer release 03021. If you have the old kit ,you may be able to get the Airwave update still, this had whitemetal ones but is of an earlier RAF finish.

  11. Hi Neil You get brass etch door handles ,tie down rings,various aerials & supports,nightsun spot light frame, ground electrical connector cover,d aerials. Resin disco IR pod. Whitemetal, RWR for & aft sonsors, IR mounting frame ,airscoops,glidescope antenna,nightsun spot light, aerials,cargo hook, ir detector underside, Droppler ground radar,Chaff & flare dispensers,underslung load hooks,H aerial & sensors on nose area. A great update set can highly recommend it to upgrade Airfix kit to current RAF standard along with Model Alliance Decal sheet MA-72151 UK air arm update part 2 which has modern schemes for the type. I believe Whirlybird or Heritage also do the enlarged wheelhousing fuel tank for Special Forces aircraft. Regards Len.

  13. Yes they kept their RN equipment in RAF service so extending nose wheel,strop hooks,slatted tail plane. They later received the Sky Flash & SUU-23/a cannon upgrades. These Aircraft were dual control so had pedals ,joy stick & dials to allow the instructor to take over control if need be. Phantom FG1 were RN XT857,XT861,XT863,XT866,XT868,XV569,XV570. RAF XT875,XV579.
  14. There were two aircraft carried the Hybrid camouflage scheme XT865/156 VL XV579/157 VL to train 43 Sqn crew also XT875/157 VL carried 8" serials in black in place of the normal Royal Navy 4" serials in white.

  16. I have pictures from this early period of Vixens & Buccaneers which have Zinc Chromate wheels ,housings,wing folds ,airbrakes.later both were steel blue in those areas. That said some had Aluminium may have been different spec between Christchurch & Chester ?. See Airlife DH Twin booms Adrian Balch.
  17. I have the double kit one is RN & one RAF with both decal sheets. The wing tips are from the S1 & were used on the Gulf war aircraft only & they keep them on till the end of their service life.

  19. Great shots of the kit ,I think this had a much better shape than the Airfix one. Lets hope the forth coming Cyber hobby Royal Navy Buccaneer S2 will be the to the high standard we have all longed for.

  21. Linewrights Ltd ADHOC Phantom Squadrons, show two pictures of XV402 with RWB roundels & raked fin flash with white out line, 402 in white on fin about & to the rear of the star Blacked serial No & 402 on nose wheel door. Richard L Ward (Mr Modeldecals to us senior modellers) wrote the book.
  22. BBC news this morning British MOD to look at cheaper option to fill this need. F35 over budget & late ,so we will see what they are looking at to replace it or which version we will buy .Daily Telegraph has leaked secret MOD report.

  24. Last year Airfix had a HAS3 in there Gift set section with ICE Lynx marking, so lets hope they still do it.
  25. Air Britian page 204 Sea Vixen XJ475 flangible hatch trails Hatfield from 27.06.61 also did pinion tanks & Red Top trails. Regards Len
