Work In Progress
Some people think the first 12 Romanian Hurricanes were fabric-winged, and the rest metal-skinned wings: others say that all the Romanian aircraft had metal-skinned wings, and a few say that the first dozen were metal-skinned and some others fabric. You may possibly be thinking of the Yugoslav Hurricanes where there is indisputable photgraphic evidence of fabric-covered wing aircraft in servce (with the two-blade prop, even). Good LSP thread here: http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=27807 and here where we covered similar ground a couple of months ago: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234931483-fabric-wing-hurricane-question/ and the locals have a bash at the subject here (in English, fortunately for us) http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=4965 Edited March 1, 2013 by Work In Progress

The Rumanian Hurricanes were all metal wing aircraft. As for the Yugoslavian, those from the UK had metal wings and two blade prop. The Zamaj licensed built has three blade props and fabric wings. Odd arrangement to say the least. As for the kit, one of my old favorites. Only odd part was the absense of shell ejection ports under the wings. I use to make them with strips of black decal. Here are some pretty widely published photographs of a fabric-covered wing Yugoslav Hurricane with a two-blade prop. The sconed page of this thread... http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=2266&hl=zmaj&st=0 ... includes this picture, which is said to be a burned-out Romanian air force Hurricane which had been obtained from Yugoslavia. It was obviously a fabric-covered wing, though the absence of visible markings is frustrating. Edited March 1, 2013 by Work In Progress

DaveCS
very nice. Airfix returning to its roots. Remember been a kid and buying a kit BECAUSE of the box art All. . . . . The. . . . Time! If I had a dime for every piece of box art that sold me on a kit I would be a millionaire by now!:-) Cheers, Dave
Troy Smith
The planes supplied to Romania were all metal wing, The ones from Yugoslavia were fabric winged. there are fair few photos in "Romanian Fighter Colours" book. this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Romanian-Fighter-Colours-1941-1945-Morusanu/dp/8389450909/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1362194952&sr=1-1 But does that mean they have added in a set of 5 spoke wheels.... as used on all the fabric winged planes, and early metal winged, including the Romanian and Finnish planes... These were missed by Classic Airframes in their kit, and the MDC and Heritage conversion kits. I'd be interested to see the decals.. did they consult the above book? I'd be happy if they got them right, as the Romanian option on the Aeromaster foreign Hurricane sheet is not accurate bloomin nice box art though! Cheers T PS Airfix site still shows old box art! John
Interesting stuff, thanks. The Romanian markings certainly give the Hurricane a different look. I think I've got one of each of the boxings of this kit in the stash so I'll probably have to add this one too - it's one of my favourite kits. dragonlanceHR
The second batch of Yugoslav Hurricanes was delivered from UK with metal wings. I have a photo somewhere on my hard drive. The license-built a/c had fabric wings. Edit: Can't find the photo but I have the book and will scan it today. The a/c in question are: RYAF serial No. (RAF Serial No.) 2324 (N2729) Edited March 2, 2013 by dragonlanceHR
