Peter W Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Firstly thanks for the comments, I'm really enjoying this one but it does seem to be taking forever to get anywhere. However it's time for a long overdue update. I always find that the photo count goes down as the build gets nearer the end. I get so engrossed in the build that I forget to take any pictures or else just don't get around to updating the thread. I have been moving forward though and all decals are on, light weathering done and matt coat applied. I've also got the beautiful Royale Resin wheels in my grubby mitts now and these are getting painted pronto so that I can get them on. They do need a fiddly bit of surgery performing on the main gear legs because Hasegawa mould their simplistic version of the brake hub as part of it and this needs removing. It's not hard just fiddly, but worth it. It had to be done though because Hasegawa's are an early style of wheel and wrong for this build. Onto some pictures. Glossed, decaled and lightly weathered: - A closeup of those wheels: - Matt coat on and some cockpit bits dry fitted: - Wolfpack Resin AN/ALQ-167(V) ECM Pod and Kit Baggage Pod: - The finishing line is getting close now, just got to get all the loose bit glued on and those wheels painted. More soon Pete
DannyB Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Wow! That paint job is cracking, well done with all that masking, I would of gone crazy about half way through.
Peter W Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 Thanks again all for the positive feedback. DannyB - I think it did send me crazy halfway through but, as the wife says that I'm already most of the way there, nobody noticed. A bit more progress has been made albeit small steps, but I'm getting most of the little bits done and working hard to get the wheels finished and on. A few pictures to tell the story: - The HUD and seats are now all glued on and looking pretty pleasing, at least to me anyway, but I do need glasses so who knows. Every time I post a picture of the cockpit it reminds me to repaint the panel behind the back seater, must add it to the to-do list: - Drop tank and odd bits added including temporary nose wheel: - Here she is sitting on her sponge sanding block equivalent of 'jacks' awaiting somebody to give her wheels: - AN/ALQ-167 Pod added: - And a final random shot: - It's going to be carrying a fairly unconventional load I'd suspect but I wanted to make it look a bit busier. I think of it as a 'Transit / Airshow load', that's my excuse anyway. I'm on the finishing straight now and hopefully done by the weekend. Pete
Sundown Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Great work Peter, you must be really happy with how well it's come out, I know I would be! Sean
AndyC Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Looks like you could just jump into it and fly it off! Super work
Peter W Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 Thanks again for the great comments on this one and, yes, I'm very happy with how it looks so far. I'm very close to the end now with just the exhaust to finish painting and a few decals to put on it after. These last few pictures show it as it stands, finally on its own wheels. The canopy isn't glued in place yet, so that to do as well. The next post should see it all done. Pete
Parabat Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 That is awesome! Looks so good, really worth all that masking!
Peter W Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 I never thought that this would ever get finished but a good day today has brought the curtain down on the first of my two in this group build. I spent the day getting the exhaust finished and glued on, canopy on as well and it's now safely tucked away in the display cabinet. The last few pictures to wrap up this thread and then off to put some in the gallery. The exhaust: - And then a few with everything in place and awaiting some proper photos: - Thanks to everyone who took an interest and hopefully build number two will be as pleasing when finished. Pete
Parabat Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Lovely, seriously good Viper there Peter W, well worth the effort you've put in.
Mike N Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Congratulations Pete, that's a stunning build! That exhaust is a fantastic way to round off the model. Looking forward to seeing more photos Mike
