haneto
So sorry for being silent for a while. I was busy with my daily work, and also painting this beast(it's huge)! So finally I finished the basic painting and washing job. Next will be another fun part: weathering!! Here again, I share with you my recipe. First, the body.
haneto
Then the vertical fins, stabilizers and gear bay covers, etc.
haneto
The missiles, pylons and transfer beams.
haneto
And some shots for fun, just to show you how big a Flanker is. 😉 That's all for now so far. Stay tuned!

Duncan B
I have just caught up with this build again and it has me wanting to get on with my GWH Su-27 kit. Your camouflage painting is so impressive and I like the way it is faded in some areas and shows a very subtle shading of some panel lines. Did you do a pre-shading on top of your primer coat before the main colours or is that effect created by you putting less paint down around the panel lines and letting the primer show through or some other method? The decals have gone down really well too, I found the original GWH Su-35S decals to be quite stiff and thick but these look thinner. Did you put down a gloss coat before decalling? I look forward to your next update, I'm guessing you will be painting the engine covers next? Duncan B
GRIM REAPER
This is just incredible! This should be in a museum when you are finished with it because this is art!

It's quite fun doing this, but very tiring since the plane is just too big... The kit decal I think is a bit thinner than the one in Su-35 kit, based on my building experience. They could be a bit thinner maybe, but that will increase then handling difficulty for some beginners. I did not spray gloss before applying decals, since the base color for camo I used are all mixed by gloss paints. I always do it that way, to save my time and effort. haneto
Thanks for following guys! We are facing lock down in Shanghai recently, due to re-breakout of COVID-19. I have been staying at home for more than 2 weeks, but there is never boring life for modeller like this! So I made lots of progress over the past 2 weeks. Here we go! Some addtional work on small parts: Edited March 29, 2022 by haneto
haneto
And the weathering started. Once the weathering goal was secured by a semi-gloss clear coating, I turn to the bare metal area painting. First is the small areas on fuselage, where Galaxy Model pre-cut masking tape comes for rescue. A must buy item for the built! 2
haneto
Then I move to anti-heat covers on AL-30F engines. This time I used a new method considered by me: the hybrid one combined with painting and sanding. Here is how I did it. 6
haneto
I still want to add more texture on non-metal area, so I also used another method: dry brush with enamel gloss coating paint. A big relief when I found no paint leaking on clear parts after removing the masking tape. So here are all the parts, waiting for final assembling! 6
haneto
So the final assembling begins. The very last part of wiring work still remains, since it has to be added only after gear bay is glued in place. And the "how to" about Detail & Wonder Studio 3D print gears installation. Patience, patience and patience!
haneto
ALWAYS glue the wheels at last! ALWAYS! I cannot bear the wheels not touching ground flatly, can you?? The final "dirty job", is to deal with the gaps between vertical fins and fuselage. Nothing serious, if you use the correct method. I have seen many fantastic Flanker builds, but very very few of them noticed the unique angle of the pitot tube on the nose! Here I share with you some trick, to install that small but very noticable part correctly(I mean the angle). That's all for now. Thanks for watching and stay tuned! 5

GRIM REAPER
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is THE best Flanker build I have ever seen. The amount of detail you have put into this including painting the pitot tubes is just mind blowing insane!
Duncan B
Another Masterclass from you so a big thank you for taking the time to show us your methods. So many things to learn from this thread that I will be reading through it over and over again. Duncan B
dov
@haneto, tell me wht tool from Japan you used for cutting the tiny circle? Wonderful work! Happy modelling
Wouter1981
The amount of detail in every part is superb but what I really like is how realistic it looks! keep up the great work!
haneto
Thank you guys for your encouragement! I believe this is kit to represent you all the detail you need, visible after building, at a well balanced level. All you need is patience, and you will find the final outcome worth every minute of your effort, not like some kit is too complicated which makes you waste your time since many "details" are invisible after finish. The smallest diameter it can cut is around 1.5mm. Highly recommend! OK, so the final few steps! I used AK pencil to add some chipping effect to replicat the used trace.
haneto
The painting process for AL-31F engine exhaust nozzles. I used some resin sample from Tempmodels. There is some 3D printing trace on some padels on the master, since it was created by 3D print. But I was told the trace will not appear on formal products. Better to check before your purchase. 😉 Edited April 27, 2022 by haneto 2
haneto
So, after 5 months built, the aircraft itself is finished! Still working on some small accessories for the final diorama. 😉 Will find some time to take formal photos of the aircraft itself later. Oh by the way, when I designed this kit, I offer you to switch canopy from open and close condition any time even after you finish it. So that you can enjoy the beautiful out line and detailed cockpit, at same time! Stay tuned!
haneto
Seems people are not very interested in Flanker here. Or maybe because of the red star on it? Hahaha, never mind. I finishied building the accessories of the diorama, for this Su-27 in last week. Very very very tiring, but hope the final layout will worth all the effort! 3
