  1. Starting to look like a Buccaneer now. This one will be displayed with wings folded.
  2. The tail section fitted quite well, but did need some persuasion to stay in line with the spine and fuselage underside.
  3. I’ve now sealed up the centre section of the airframe. Now I need to look for reference photos of FAA Buccaneer bomb bays as I intend to display it open so will need to get the detail and colours right. It’s sprayed light aircraft grey as in the instructions. For the engine pipes visible in the wheel bays I painted them gunmetal then gave them a dark dirtwash to give that slightly ‘burnt’ tinge, I hope!
  4. I’m going to display it with the engine panel open, so tried to make a bit of effort with the visible parts of the RR Spey.
  5. Nose section sealed up. The fit is perfect, especially how the cockpit clicks into place at the rear. I did need to add more noseweight though as I couldn’t fit the recommended 15g into the part provided so I stuffed some more up against it in front of the pilot’s instrument panel.
  6. Cockpit done. I quite like the seatbelt decals provided in the kit, I think they’ll look decent once it’s all sealed up.
  7. Thank you for the input so far chaps, very much appreciated. I have made a start, after much perusal of the instructions. I decided to stick with the kit seats rather than aftermarket, this will be an oob build as it does seem an excellent kit. I would have liked more decals for the instrument panels, however so I don’t need minuscule painting! I’ll consider an Eduard etch set for the next Bucc build I think. Seats done apart from their decals, and a test dry fit into the cockpit tub. Most of the instruments are hand painted (or posca-penned) except the neater looking ones on the observer’s left console. Still a fair bit of work to do yet, and the interior sides of the cockpit section. I’m taking my time with this build.
  8. Nothing for me this time. I guess I’ll save some cash after the 1/48 Gannet, Sea King and RN Buccaneer then the RAF Buccaneer (of which I’ll need at least two!). Maybe next year Airfix will do the Jet Provost, Swift and Chinook in 1/48? … And a 1/72 Hastings and Andover. Oh well.
  9. Lovely Gannet! Looks great with the wings folded. I think this is how I’ll do mine, and the same markings option.
  10. @Phone Phixer thanks so much Rob, that’s great info, perfect for my next Bucc build after the Navy one!
  11. Yet another Bucc question I’m afraid, I can’t seem to find the info elsewhere, does anyone know the serial numbers for the six Buccaneers used for Operation Pulsator? I think two may have been XV361 and XZ430? Was it just six or were they relieved by six ‘fresh’ ones deployed to Akrotiri? At some point I’ll be making the new Airfix RAF S.2B with the weapons fit for Pulsator, chaff dispensers, AIM-9, ALQ pod I assume and four 1,000lb-ers in the bomb bay.
  12. I think Tamiya do a 1/32 F-4J Phantom which if you can get 74 Sqn decals for it would look amazing. If you search around eBay I think there’s a 1/32 Matchbox Puma HC1 which would look great with your Land Rovers.
  13. Thanks @F-104 nut if mine ends up as good as yours I’ll be very happy. I haven’t checked the sprues closely yet but hopefully nothing is short-shot. One question I do have for you or any other Buccaneer experts, for XV340 circa 1970 do I need to remove the little triangular fillet between the roundel and intakes? Its contemporary in the photo below clearly doesn’t have one, but looking closely at 340 itself it looks as though it may have this feature but it’s hard to tell for sure: Photos from ‘FAA Buccaneers’ website.
  14. What a superb start! And it looks like this kit doesn’t need aftermarket interiors to look amazing inside. I’m now inspired to buy one after all.
  15. A happy new year to you all! It’s been a while since my last build, with theatre commitments, holidays then Christmas, but I’m back with a bang, or should that be Bucc with a bang! Despite waiting ages for the RAF version for which I’m awaiting delivery, I felt compelled to buy and build the previous FAA version as a companion to the Sea Vixen. Seeing this kit reduced to £50 it seemed a good time to get one, I doubt it’ll ever be less than that. So without further ado, my first build of the year. The now very familiar box, freshly delivered this morning… And a LOT of plastic inside! I’m tempted to make it with wings folded, but reserve the right to change my mind. Lovely decal sheet! And this is the scheme that most caught my eye. The real thing, images below are all courtesy of the FAA Buccaneer website: I’ve already got a spray can of EDSG so should be ready to get going. All comments and advice and general Bucc banter more than welcome …
  16. Nothing for me there. I’ll save my cash for a third Airfix Buccaneer! 😂
  17. Welcome to the site, and I’m already envious that you’ve flown in a Harrier! Similar to many I suspect, I paint the little bits on the sprue and wait until later in the build to attach them. I’ll build as much of the main airframe, spray it then attach the fiddly bits before dealing with any little ‘snags’ as Photohound states above. I’d be inclined to leave the nozzles until you’ve painted the fuselage, unless you want them to rotate. Looking at Graham’s superb build here it certainly seemed to work out well. I’ve got this kit in the stash (and the Kinetic GR.3), so looking forward to seeing how yours goes.
  18. Outstanding that. So good to see these builds with a historical reference like the old airfield. My mum lives in Norfolk and there are quite a few of these dotted about the county. Always feel something if I visit them, hard to say what exactly but they definitely have an aura about them somehow.
  19. Beautiful that! Wonderful model of an iconic aircraft.
  20. What needs changing on the canopy? Too late for my previous two Vulcans but could be worth knowing for my next two.
  21. Wow! That’s outstanding; the colours, poise, load out everything looks superb. So tempted to start doing some 70s/80s USN stuff.
