  1. I have just started one of these...it may be a whif. It will not be accurate. It goes together just like a kit from the sixties with lots of filler needed.
  2. Lovely job! Did you use artistic licence for the camouflage, as it seemed that each aircraft was unique in its pattern at that time. Cheers Van
  3. Not sure if it is a mille feuille...:-)
  4. Thread resurrection! Did the Hendon ever get finished? Any photos? Oops...found pictures...sorry! Van
  5. They look like Japanese POWs
  6. Just wait for the engines and their cowlings...ask me how I know!
  7. Dennis can I just ask where you got the mounts for the LAU-10s? (the things that attach the ordnance to the pylon) Thanks Van
  8. I think the first reply answered the question...
  9. What I find comparatively strange is that unlike the original poster Vallejo paint does not clog my airbrush yet Xtracrylix do-I always have to use flow enhancer or water with the latter. I guess it is partly down to technique and partly down to airbrush. Van
  10. Strangely the Oxford Concise English Dictionary says: Marque:n. a make of motorcar as distinct from a specific model Mark:(followed by a numeral) A particular design, model, etc., of a car, aircraft etc. (this is the Mark 2 model) I guess it is a case of whatever dictionary you prefer!
  11. I don't ever thin Vallejo Model Air. I do thin Vallejo Model Color, however. The former is designed to be airbrushed straight from the bottle. Strangely, I often find that Xtracrylix clog my airbrush...
  12. I thought "marque " signifies a make or brand and "mark" the version of a particular thing made by that "marque" Van
  13. Looks like every aircraft used in Vn has become iconic!
  14. This Mustang is really filthy and the invasion stripes look like artex! http://www.cybermodeler.com/history/354fg/pages/53183ac.shtml Not great from the side either! http://www.cybermodeler.com/history/354fg/pages/5318xac.shtml Van
  15. Really nice model!-why Airfix did not follow up with other variants I do not know. Strangely the Airfix wings have flashed over holes for outer hard points introduced on the A-4E.
  16. So on the Airfix Swift you have to cut all the parts from a sheet of plastic-create a cockpit tub and wheel wells etc etc? A bit of hyperbole, I think...
  17. The thing is in the early 60s there weren't many Lightnings, they had poor serviceabilty so relatively few would get airborne and those that did did not have hugely reliable missiles, and only 2 of them. They were faced with signficant numbers of Bears and Badgers. By the time the short range Lightnings had returned to base it would be possibly too late. I still love Lightnings though...
  18. Yes I am aware of the significant differences between the F-104A/C and other variants. The thread made me wonder whether the Lightning or Starfighter would actually have been a good interceptors in the real world, given the weapons they had. People love both types, but faced with real soviet aircraft to shoot down in the late 50's early 60's I wonder how well they would have done. My thoughts are they would have been overwhelmed very quickly indeed and that since each aircraft had only 2 missiles, they would each have only shot down one enemy aircraft at best, given the reliability of missiles at the time.
  19. Lightning vs Starfighter: both fast interceptors with 2 missiles. I wonder which was better at is job, the Firestreak or contemporary Sidewinder?
  20. I don't agree as modelling does not have an inherent purpose, only what the modeller ascribes to it. Modelling means different things to different people at different times. Van
  21. The Textron Scorpion. Small, light and cheap http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-28260781
  22. I thought the film was interesting, that is all. I have no axe to grind over the use or otherwise of mats...
