Erwin Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) Hi all, As a Belgian I feel the need to point out that this year it's the 65 th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes). I do realize that this years GB calendar is fully booked. But passing this date on without doing nothing seems not right to me. Basicly subject directly linked to the battle. Mainly in winter camouflage.I also feel that this should be a "groundforce" GB. Planes ofcourse played a mayor part in the battle once the weather improved. But the main fighting was done on the ground. But a plane-diorama depicting a plane fully snowed under not able to fly could be allowed too.But not just any plane of that time-frame. This link gives you more info... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge The battle took place from 16 th Dec 44 to 25 Jan 45. That is just about five weeks. Howabout those dates as GB dates ? ( from 16 th Dec 2010 to 25 Jan 2011 ) Edited July 4, 2010 by Erwin
daz greenwood Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I'd be up for it as I have a few KT's in the stash and a JT
smuts Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I'd be up for it as I have a few KT's in the stash and a JT If it happens count me in too. Andy.
SPerx Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 OK - cards on table. Are models with a Kampfgruppe Peiper theme going to be acceptable? Its my principal area of interest in The Bulge and Peiper was, IMHO, an outstanding leader of men. If not acceptable, so be it.
CPNGROATS Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I think the "Battle of the Bulge" needs to be remembered, so count me in...Cheers, ggc
daz greenwood Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 (edited) I'd agree with the Peiper bit Sperx all my KT's will be from his kampfgruppe, and I agree with what you say about being an outstanding leader Edited July 5, 2010 by daz greenwood

I see no reason to excluide him.
Derbyeomanry Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Count me in - something American and Sherman shaped probably Neil
AnonymousDFB1 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Guys if you can drum up som firm and positive support for this one considering the event and the time fram I'll see if we can fit it in but I don't want it to detract from the KUTA III GB
Deon Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I'll have a go too, Ill do a US infantry figure or something similar
Slippery Jim Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I'll have a go at this too, not sure what I'll build yet though
CPNGROATS Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I think the "Battle of the Bulge" needs to be remembered, so count me in...Cheers,ggc Upon reflection, I'd like to do a Tiger II, scale and kit to be determined... Cheers, ggc
Erwin Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 Guys if you can drum up som firm and positive support for this one considering the event and the time fram I'll see if we can fit it in but I don't want it to detract from the KUTA III GB Thanks Mish. We will see how it goes. But I'm realistic too. Not enough support is no GB !
Slippery Jim Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I'll have a go at this too, not sure what I'll build yet though After due consideration I'll pitch in with either a Panther or a Stug (can't spell Sturmgeschutz)
CPNGROATS Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) Erwin: The link you provided is very informative, summarizing the battle very well. Reading through it helps to get the creative juices flowing and brings back to memory the various dramatization one has seen over the years... CliffB Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 This GB appeals to me too, although I don't normally do armour. All I've got in my stash is a Pz.IV Ausf D and an Sd.Kfz. 184. Am a right in assuming that neither would have participated in the Battle of the Bulge? (I'm looking for reasons to build, rather than buy more kits at present ). Thanks Cliff
daz greenwood Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Hi Cliff. I'm sorry but of those are not suitable. But the PzKpfw IV Ausf D would be suitable for the Blitzkrieg GB.
CliffB Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks Daz, just as I feared. Pleased to say though that I've got a Pz.38(t) lined up for the Blitzkrieg GB. Cliff
CliffB Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 D'oh, just remembered that I've got an un-made Matchbox 1/72 scale Jeep . Not the world's most impressive kit, but could look good with some snow. Count me in then please for the GB. Cliff
Erwin Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 It's starting to get the needed support. A bit more would be welcome.
Bomber_Harris Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I'm interested, I've got an Italeri M24 Chaffee, i think they made it just in time? If this is suitable, then count me in. Rich
daz greenwood Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Good choice Rich. M24's were in theatre in November '44 so fits in with the timeline.
Erwin Posted July 14, 2010 Author Posted July 14, 2010 (edited) Hi all, In order to give Mish the possibility to fit this GB into the calendar this year we need enough support. If it doesn't reach the needed numbers I will cancel the request. After all,Mish has agreed to maybe fit it in evendough the calender is fully booked. Edited July 25, 2010 by Erwin
