    Humbrol metal cote

Funny, my metalcote is really good, better than the regular stuff.
  3. An environmentalist on the radio said something that didn't go down a treat for the ultra-PC BBC: that most recycling is tosh, as it costs more to recycle than to obtain virgin, and the that's produced is low-grade anyway. He went on that whilst some is useful and good, much of it is assuage middle-class environmental angst. This is not new: during WWII most items taking for melting (park railings, pots and pan, etc) were not used productively, but it was done to make people feel like part of the solution, not the problem.
  4. BRILLIANT. Absolutely brilliant. Words fail me...
  5. Oh, is this the coupe version of the F-50 Barchetta? I'm entering the Revell one
  6. Well, it was good in places, and I could have made into something decent, but, gave up as it wasn't worth the extra effort. At least I know I can paint decently, and, whilst I need to mask better, it could have been easily touched up
  7. This is the new Airfix BF-109G6. I was disappointed as the interior is a crap seat, and, er, that's it. Even in the 1960's this would have been considered Spartan. Moreover, the seat doesn't even fit well!!! Exterior seems OK. I mucked up the canopy, as I attempted to use MicroMask, rather than tape. Feeling disappointed with the build (actually, on reflection, it wasn't that bad), I decided to save the rather nice decals, and paint it a unique scheme, using old decals. I brush painted it, as I just wanted to get it done, and off the workbench. I assumed that the Czechs gave some G-6 to the Russians post war for testing (possible?), and the Russians would have slapped some green on it, and used basic insignia. So, I did the same. Some green which looked vaguely Russian, and decals from a Yak-15 kit, long gone. Nose was red (it was for my Godson, and I wanted to break up the colour) - well, red noses were used on some Czech aircraft, so, it's probably. Fishing line for the ariel.
  8. Nice! Also, the hammer might be right in red. Basically, they could be red or metal, or, if a ground crew was busy covering everything in green, in interior green too (not uncommon), so, leave the hammer in red I say.
  9. Great job! Of course, I'd have gone for the Israeli colour scheme...! Seriously, excellent build
  10. A 10 hour build, and that good? Strewth! Excellent work
  11. Spiffing, absolutely spiffing job old bean! Bravo that man!
  12. Well, it all ended in tears. The masking of the canopy was, hmmm, not as good as could be. The masking of the body was reasonable, but needs so tidying up (seep-through, etc), plus a ridge on one line (not sure why just there). Some glue marks on the canopy (surprising, as I used Kristal Klear I thought). However, worst of all - I lost the ring between the propeller and the fuselage. Still, learnt some good lessons, and, it could have been saved, if I had the inclination and the missing part! Here's the finished item (with the new Airfix job in the foreground of Picture 3)
  13. Another one for KUTA, this time, a rather old kit, another Hasegawa I bought sans box. This might be a Kittyhawk, or a P-40E. Cockpit is done, sanding mostly done, so, almost at the masking stage. Less than a year I think on this one.
  14. OK chaps, I say, this KUTA lark has been most awfully spiffing! Problem though, I've managed to crash and burn twice, with 5 year old models. This time, a more recent attempt, an Academy BF-109E3 in 1/72. Interior was, if I say so myself, rather good, with all the buttons individually painted using sharpened cocktail sticks, and even researched to get the button colours right! The middle section of canopy was a mess, and I used micromask for masking, which, hasn't always been the best for me (still learning). Undersides painted Humbrol enamel 65. Here it is partially masked, but with a broken tailplane and strut (since fixed), and partially masked, waiting for Maskol to finish the job
  15. I say old bean, I'm not on the flight roster for this mission!
